Vincent C. Marconi
, MD
Associate Medical Director
Division of Infectious Diseases
Emory University School of Medicine
USA

 Biography :

Dr Vincent Marconi received his MD   in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine during the period  of 1996 to 2000. Thereafter he received training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.  Currently,  he is an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine and jointly in the School of Public Health at Emory University. He is currently the Associate Medical Director of the Infectious Disease Program of Grady Memorial Hospital. He is serving as a reviewer for several reputed journals like Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of AIDS and Journal of Infectious Diseases. He has co-authored over 40 research articles. He is a member of the IDSA and the HIVMA. He has been honored as the 2008 USAF Chapter American College of Physicians Major General Archie Hoffman Award.

Biography
 Research Interest :

The main focus of Dr. Marconi&middot′s research is to identify the underlying biological and socioeconomic conditions which lead to differences in HIV treatment response for domestic and international populations.  Results from these studies inform the design of interventional trials which attempt to mitigate these conditions in an experimental setting.  The goal of these trials is to improve patient care and characterize the pathogenesis of HIV treatment response.

Biography
 Research Interest :

My research lies in the interface of the host-pathogen relationship. I am interested in how pathogens evade the host immune response. I have focused on the host immune response, including MHC identification and charactization as well as epitope identification. The goal is to define the role of epitope responses after infection with different pathogens, including Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, Tuberculosis, Dengue Virus, Lymphocytic choriomeningitis Virus and Influenza in varying animal models (such as mouse, ferret and non-human primate) and human systems. Insight into these areas can be used for diagnostic kit and vaccine development.

 Biography :

Sandra Springer, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, section of Infectious Diseases at the Yale School of Medicine. She is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Springer has significant research experience with adherence interventions for HIV-infected drug and alcohol dependent persons. She was a recipient of a NIDA-funded K23 mentored career development award, during which she evaluated the use of medication assisted treatment (MAT) to prevent relapse to opioid use as a conduit to care among HIV-infected opioid dependent released prisoners. She developed the first protocol to use buprenorphine as relapse prevention for opioid dependent HIV+ prisoners on day of release and has published these findings that serve as proof of concept that MAT can be effective in maintaining HIV+ released prisoners HIV clinical outcomes. She also has expertise in supervising RCTs by serving as medical director and co-investigator for multiple RCTs including DAART adherence interventions for IDUs and HIV+ released prisoners. She also has considerable clinical and research experience with the use of extended-release naltrexone and has been awarded an R01 from NIAAA as Principal Investigator to evaluate its use to prevent relapse to alcohol use among HIV infected alcohol dependent prisoners transitioning to the community, and from NIDA as PI as part of the Seek Test Treat and Retain initiative to evaluate its use to prevent relapse to opioid use among opioid dependent released criminal justice populations as a means to maintain HIV treatment outcomes. She is also a co-investigator on an R01 from NIDA with Dr. Altice evaluating the use of buprenorphine as linkage to HIV testing and conduit to care for opioid dependent persons in Washington D.C. She has recently received a K02 independent scientist award from NIDA as well. Dr. Springer has expertise in the development and implementation of medication-assisted-therapy interventions involving HIV+, drug and alcohol dependent persons involved in the criminal justice setting.

He is a reviewer for several reputed journals, including PLoS ONE, Journal of Virology, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Vaccine, FASEB Journal.

Biography
 Research Interest :

Pathogenesis of the AIDS-associated immunodeficiency. In particular, he is interested in defining the immunological features allowing SIV-infected natural hosts, such as sooty mangabeys, to avoid progression to AIDS despite chronic high levels of SIV replication. To this aim, Dr. Paiardini performs comparative studies in SIV-infected sooty mangabeys (natural host) and rhesus macaques (non-natural host), as well as HIV-infected humans. Dr. Paiardini’s recent research suggests that preservation of Th17 cell homeostasis, particularly at the mucosal sites, and the ability to reduce the susceptibility of central memory CD4+ T cells to virus infection are critical for the ability of sooty mangabeys to remain AIDS-free.
