Biography : Dr. Simon Lin is director of the Bioinformatics Consulting Core and an associate professor of research at Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, USA. He earned his MD at Peking University School of Medicine, and finished postgraduate training at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. With interdisciplinary collaborations, Dr. Lin focuses his research on translational genomics and medical data mining. He has published 42 per-reviewed papers, and he was author of 4 books, 6 book chapters, and three R/Bioconductor software packages. He has been teaching at Duke University and Northwestern University and mentored 22 students. He serves the Biomedical Computing and Health Informatics Study Section of the National Institute of Health. He is an elected senior member of the IEEE and Sigma Xi. He served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the area of system biology and computational genomics. He organized the Critical Assessment of Massive Data Analysis (CAMDA) Conference. He received many awards like the Apple Bioinformatics Computing Award, the caBIG Award of the National Cancer Institute, and the Visual Refection of Science Award of the International Society of Computational Biology.

Biography : Dr. Bozinovski obtained his degrees from University of Zagreb, Croatia. Currently he is professor of Computer Science at South Carolina State University. He teaches courses on Biocomputing/Bioinformatics, Neuroinformatics, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. His pioneering achievements in computer science and systems biology include 1) solving the delayed reinforcement learning for neural networks (1981), introducing emotion in neural networks learning (1982), proposing relations between robotics and genetic engineering (1985), proposing robotics and flexible manufacturing metaphor for genetics (1987), proposing operating systems and systems software metaphor for genetics (2000), controlling robots using brains signals only (1988), proposing mathematical model that explicitly relates behavior, emotion, and motivation (2002 and 2003), and proposing the concept of Engineered Psychology to replace the concept of Artificial Intelligence (2008). He obtained two million-dollar grants from NSF, one on Neuroscience and Brain-Computer Interface as PI (2005), and on one on Biorobotics and Biofabrication as Co-PI (2009).

Biography : william teahan head the Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Agents research group at Bangor University. The research group carries out theoretical and applied research into artificial intelligence and intelligent autonomous agent systems. The group has broad interests in many areas including knowledge-based systems, logic, multi-agent systems, distributed systems, machine learning, data mining, artificial life, behavioral animation, computational linguistics, natural language processing, information theory and information retrieval.Prior to taking up my lectureship position at Bangor University, I was a Research Fellow with the Information Retrieval Group in the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. I was an invited researcher at the Department of Information Technology at Lund University in Sweden in 1999, and a research assistant in the machine learning and digital libraries research groups in the University of Waikato in New Zealand where I completed my Ph.D. in 1998.

Biography : Ying Tan is with Department of Machine Intelligence, Peking University, CHINA. He earned his Ph.D. at Southeast University, Nanjing, China. Now he is a full professor and Ph.D. advisor at Peking University, and director of Computational Intelligence Laboratory at Peking University. Biography : Bernd Mayer is Managing Partner of the Life Science R&D company emergentec biodevelopment GmbH, Vienna, Austria. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of Vienna, a venia docendi in Structural Biology, and serves as lecturer (adjunct Professor) for applied bioinformatics at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry, University of Vienna. Bernd is active in graduate teaching for about 10 years, and supervises diploma and PhD students in bioinformatics methods development and application. Biography : Dr. Bashir Al-Diri Bashir joined the Lincoln School of Computer Science at the University of Lincoln in 2009. His main research is concerned with the development of computer vision algorithms to analyse retinal blood vessels for characterization of diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Al-Diri developed a robust fully automated system for retinal vascular segmentation and measurement, which provides a unique combination of good segmentation and superior measurement performance. It is thus uniquely well-suited to act as a base for research into the diagnosis of vascular diseases that cause measurable changes to the geometry of retinal vessels. Dr. Al-Diri research includes computer vision, medical image analysis, automated surveillance, artificial intelligence, speech recognition, language corpus and lexical analysis, and applications of active contour models.

Biography : Chandra Kambhampati received his Ph.D. degree from City University, London, for his dissertation on algorithms for optimizing control in 1988.
