James J Hickman is a Professor of Nanoscience Technology Chemistry Biomolecular Science Physics and EECS and was the Founding Director of the NanoScience Technology Center at the University of Central Florida Previously he held the position of the Hunter Endowed Chair in the Bioengineering Department at Clemson University Dr Hickman has a PhD from MIT in Chemistry as well as BS and MS from Penn State University in Chemistry He has worked at the NSF parttime as a special advisor to the Experimental and Integrative Activities Division in CISE in the area of biological computation and previously had worked with the Information Technology Office at DARPA to help develop new programs in Ultrascale computing He has 81 publications and 16 book chapters in addition to 16 patents He has presented over 80 invited presentations with more than 100 total presentations Dr Hickman was elected a Fellow of AIMBE in 2004 and of the AVS in 2007 and is currently a member of the BOD for AIMBE He was a founding member of the Biomaterial Interfaces Technical Group for AVS and Chair from 19952000 He received the NSF Director’s Award for Collaborative Integration in 2002 He received the SAIC Publication Award in 1993 1994 and 1995; the Berman Award from the NRL in 1993 and 1995; the SAIC Technology Achievement Award in 1995 and the MIT Gold Award for community service in 1989

Dr. Wang earned his B.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering with a second major in Applied Mathematics from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST, Shanghai) in 1997. Continuing at ECUST, he completed his M.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering in 2000, where he studied synthesis and photophysical properties of novel conjugated polymers. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from the University of Akron, Ohio in December 2003. His doctoral studies focused on chain dynamics of binary polymer blends using rheological and pulsed gradient NMR methods. In 2004, Dr. Wang joined Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) as a Research Fellow where he developed a series of novel crosslinkable and degradable polymeric systems for bone and nerve regeneration, and investigated the interactions between cells / tissues and polymer substrates / scaffolds.

Dr. Basel Khraiwesh currently is working at Plant Stress Genomic and Technology Research Center-KAUST University. He worked previously at VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology-Ghent University, Belgium. He has authored several journal articles and has written chapters in several scientific books. He served also as a reviewer of peer reviewed journals in the area of Plant MicroRNAs and Plant Molecular Biology. Dr. Khraiwesh earned a bachelor’s in Plant Production and Protection from An-Najah National University in 1999, a master’s in Horticulture and Plant Protection from The University of Jordan in 2002, and doctorate in Plant Biotechnology from University of Freiburg, Germany in 2009.

Enoch Y. Park is vice director of Innovative Joint Research Centerand professor of Graduate School of Science and Technology at Shizuoka University. He is selected as aleading researcher 20 in Shizuoka University and also research leader of Promotion of Nanobio-Technology Research to support aging, welfare society, supported by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan. He isrecognized in the field of silkworm biotechnology for protein expression. He developed firstly Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) bacmid, which is Escherichia coli and Bombyx mori shuttle vectorandeliminates the conventional tedious procedures required to identify and isolate recombinant viruses. He was also awarded excellent academic paper award entitled “Kinetic study of hybridoma metabolism and antibody production in continuous culture using serum-free medium” and TERUI award entitled “Strategies of the enhancement of biological and metabolic activity in microorganisms”in the society of Bioscience and Bioengineering, Japan.

I am a young African researcher with activities targeting some major tropical diseases, including malaria. Our research focuses mainly on malaria drug discovery from natural products. Malaria continues to be a leading public health threat in Africa, and traditional medicine plays a key role in daily health care. We are working towards optimising the quality of plant products both as standardised phytomedicines or source of new drug candidates. Mapping drug resistance patterns through molecular epidemiology of malaria is part of our future goals. At the University of Buea, I am involved in teaching as an Instructor of Biochemistry in the Faculty of science. I have also been working closely with traditional healers through our organization (Nature & Health initiative), promoting Good Practice of Traditional Medicines and optimizing the repertoire of medicinal plants in Cameroon. I have contributed as reviewer in several international journals. I have equally been member of some national and international learned organizations including the following: the Cameroon Society of Biosciences, the Cameroon Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SOCAB), the African Network for Drug Discovery and Diagnosis Innovation (ANDI), International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID).
