Dr. Claudio Luparello, PhD in Cell Biology, is a Full Professor of Cytology and Histology at the University of Palermo (Italy). DR. JAROSLAVA HALPER is a professor in the Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine, The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. She has received her MD from the University of Toronto in 1980 and a PhD in Experimental Pathology from the University of Minnesota at Mayo Clinic in 1986. She trained in Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, and at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (board certification in 1984). She characterized transforming growth factor e (TGFe), the first member of the granulin family to be identified. Her laboratory has shown that TGFß4, an isoform thought to be specific to avian species,is actually TGFß1.
 

Lubomir Manolov Stoilov is Head, Department of Molecular Genetics, Associated Professor, Institute of Genetics “Prof. D. Kostoff”, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Kandace Williams is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Cancer Biology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine (UT-COM; formerly Medical College of Ohio), where she has been since 2001. She was formerly a faculty member at the University of Alaska Biomedical Program. Her postdoctoral fellowship was with Dr. Lawrence Loeb in the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is currently affiliate faculty in the Department of Pathology. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Dartmouth Medical School, and her B.S. (Cum Laude) at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has served on the NIH Cancer Etiology and Chemical Pathology study sections for several years, is on the Editorial Board of Mutation Research, and a Board member of American Society for Circumpolar Health, as well as Council member of the Environmental Mutagen Society. She also serves on the UT-COM Institutional Review Board for Human Research, Cancer Biology PhD Program Steering Committee, Cancer Center Steering Committee, Cancer Center Program Director (Cell Biology and Pathogenesis section), and the Research Advisory Committee for the Dean.

Dr. Wang is the Director of Proteomics and an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He earned his PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and was an NIH/NRSA postdoctoral fellow studying mechanisms of DNA repair in mammalian system. He joined the staff of Indiana University School of Medicine in 2001 as the Scientific Director of Proteomics and established a Proteomics Core Facility. His expertise includes 2DE- and LC/MS-based proteomics, DNA repair, surface plasmon resonance, and cancer drug resistance. He has supervised many graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates. He is also a Co-Principal Investigator on the National Cancer Institute’s Clinical Proteomics Technologies for Cancer Program and has worked with many clinical investigators world-wide. He received a number of awards including a Young Investigator’s Award in 2004 HUPO meeting. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in DNA repair, biochemistry, and proteomics related journals and served as a reviewer for many journals as well as NIH and Department of Defense grant applications

Dr. John A. D′Orazio is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.  A physician scientist by training, Dr. D′Orazio specializes in the clinical care of children with cancer and blood disorders.   He received an M.D. and Ph.D. (in Microbiology and Immunology) from the University of Miami School of Medicine.  His pediatric training (1996-1999) was done at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, MA) where he also served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics (1999-2000).  He then joined the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital (Boston, MA) after which he served as an Instructor of Pediatrics while completing a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. David Fisher (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute).  Dr. D´Orazio then joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2004 and has established an independent research program there.  He has received numerous teaching and research awards

Dr. Rui Amaral Mendes attained his DMD degree from the University of Porto in 2000. After initiating is doctoral studies at the University of Porto, he afterwards proceeded to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where is currently completing his doctoral thesis on keratocystic odontogenic tumors of jaws. He was appointed Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine and Oncology of the Portuguese Catholic University in November 2009. Since then, he has also been working as Assistant reviewer of the V World Workshop on Oral Medicine – “Genetics/epigenetics of oral mucosal premalignancy” and he is also member of Research Interest Group "Head & Neck Oncology” of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Fellow of the International Academy of Oral Oncology

Dr. Cox James is originally from Iowa and attended Iowa State University where I received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry.  Following that, I then received my PhD degree in Biochemistry from The University of South Dakota School of Medicine.  The focus of my doctorate studies was DNA repair studies in Chlamydomonas rheinhardi .   I next completed two postdoctoral positions at Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, working first with Dr. David Calhoun in Microbiology and then Dr. Phyllis Shaw in Anatomy/Cell Biology.  I am currently an associate professor of Biochemistry at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri.  I work with metastatic melanoma cells and am particularly interested in mechanisms of tumor cell migration and invasion by proteolytic enzymes

Dr. Nancy D. Turner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Food Science at Texas A&M University, and Past Chair of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Nutrition.  She also is a member of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Toxicology, Intercollegiate Faculty of Genetics and Intercollegiate Faculty of Food Science.  She earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition from Texas A&M University in 1995 at which time she started a research program focusing on the area of diet and colon cancer prevention.  Most of the work conducted since that time has addressed the role of dietary fiber and the bioactive molecules in fiber-containing foods on mitigation of various aspects of colon carcinogenesis and inflammatory bowel disease.  Current research is designed to understand how the antioxidants (polyphenols) present in various foods influence the intestinal environment, with particular attention to the interaction between the microbiota and the colon epithelia.  The disease initiators/promoters used in her studies have included chemical carcinogens, galactic cosmic radiation (Brookhaven National Laboratory), and pro-inflammatory agents.  Her research has led to the publication of over 53 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and she was one of the editors for a book entitled “Potential Health Benefits of Citrus”. She has been a reviewer for numerous journals, served on the editorial board for the American Journal of Animal Science, and has been an Associate Editor of ASN Nutrition Notes since 2000.  Dr. Turner has been a member of USDA/NRI and NSBRI review panels, and an ad hoc member of the NCI Chemo/Dietary Prevention study section.  She has also served as a member of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute Teaching Advisory Board and the NASA Antioxidant Working Group.

Dr. Li-Mei Chen received her M.D. from Hunan Medical University in 1986, and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Medical University of South Carolina in 1997. Currently she is working as a cancer researcher in University of Central Florida College of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology. She has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed research articles and served as a reviewer or an editor for biomedical journals. She is a member of the Society for Basic Urologic Research since 2005

Dr. Philippe Becuwe is a professor of cellular and molecular biology in Henri Poincaré’s University of Nancy. He received a PhD in Biology and Health (1994) from the Lille University, Lille, France. He is professor since 2007 and is a manager of a research team in his cancer research unit. He has authored 35 peer-reviewed articles and among them, some invited review articles. He is serving as a reviewer in several international journals

Dr. Hofseth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina.  Overall, his research interests revolve around chronic inflammation and cancer.  Chronic inflammation is dangerous to human health. It drives many prevalent diseases in our society, including heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and cancer. Current treatment strategies to dampen signs and symptoms of chronic inflammation are limited, and fraught with side-effects. Dr. Hofseth has dedicated his career to identifying novel targets and therapeutic approaches to suppressing inflammation, with minimal toxicity. One way is through the use of common complementary and alternative medicines that have anti-inflammatory properties. Another way is to team up with biochemists who synthesize small molecule inhibitors of specific pro-inflammatory molecules. Dr. Hofseth also carryies out clinical trials to examine the role of anti-oxidants in suppressing systemic inflammation, and improve overall health. Our bench-to-bedside approach will have far-reaching health implications on millions of people suffering from auto-immune and chronic inflammatory diseases. Dr. Hofseth has published over 50 times in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Kamal Datta is an Assistant Professor Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology, Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC.<br/>He received an M.D. in Biochemistry from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India in 2001 and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health.<br/>He received a number of awards including NIH Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) in 2004 and International Congress of Radiation Research Award in 2007.<br/>His recent invited presentations were at International Workshop on Radiation Damage to DNA, Atlanta, Georgia in 2010, Heavy Ions in Therapy and Space Symposium, Cologne, Germany in 2009.<br/>He has published in journals like PNAS and Blood and is a reviewer of Toxico

Efird completed his Doctorate in Epidemiology (Biostatistics Concentration) at Stanford University School of Medicine.  He currently is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health, Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University (ECU) and has a joint appointment as Epidemiologist/Chief Statistician in the Center for Health Disparities Research.  Prior to joining ECU, Dr. Efird was Director of the Biostatistics Facility at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (Honolulu, Hawaii) and an Associate Member of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii.

Dr. William Chi-shing Cho is a scientific officer at the Department of Clinical Oncology in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He is a Chartered Scientist granted by the Science Council (UK) and a fellow member of several institutes, including the Institute of Biomedical Science (UK), Hong Kong Institute of Biomedical Science and Hong Kong Society for Molecular Diagnostic Sciences. Dr Cho has published over 100 papers and plenty of books covering cancer biomarkers, proteomics and microRNAs. He serves as the editor-in-chief, editor and associate editor of a number of international medical journals. Dr Cho is also an international grant reviewer of the Hope Funds for Cancer Research (USA), Cancer Research UK, Science Foundation (Ireland), National Medical Research Council (Singapore), and Academia Sinica Investigator Award (Taiwan).
