Dr. Lawrence E. Schaufler is currently a Research Chemist with the U.S. Department of Commerce within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as part of the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, located at the Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute in Juneau, Alaska. Dr. Schaufler earned dual B.S. degrees from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA in Biology and Chemistry, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA in the areas of protein biochemistry and molecular biology. His research with NOAA over the past 8 years has focused on the bioenergetic characterization of various species and their trophic relationships, as well as the use of fatty acid signatures in stock identification, prey elucidation, and related topics. Dr. Schaufler served as the chairman for the local American Chemical Society (ACS) section in 2007-8, and is a key organizer in various outreach events such as the Intel Southeast Alaska Regional Science Fair. He has also served as president and director for nonprofit organizations in the Juneau community, and is a founding member of the Southeast Alaska RiteCare Program, helping children address speech and language disorders, at no cost to the parents.

Vítor Vasconcelos is Professor at the Department of Biology the Faculty of Sciences , Porto University and the head of the Laboratory of Ecotoxicology, Genomics and Evolution (LEGE) at the Marine and Environmental Research Center (CIIMAR) of Porto University, Portugal. He earned his Ph.D. at University of Porto (UP), Portugal. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of CIIMAR and responsible for the Science out-reach program. He has published 95 Reviewed papers and he was author of 5 book chapters. He has been teaching experience of more than 25 years being the director of the MSc course on Toxicology and Environmental Contamination (UP). He is one of the members in Task Force - Marine and Freshwaters Toxins – of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists- AOAC International. He is also the National Contact (Portugal) of CYANONET- Global Network for the Hazard Management of Cyanobacterial Blooms and Toxins in Water Resources, of the International Hydrology Programme da UNESCO He served as a reviewer of more than 120 peer-reviewed journals in the area of environmental toxicology and eutrophication. He organized 18 international conferences and gave 50 invited talks.

W. Randy Brooks is a Professor of Marine Biology at Florida Atlantic University. He earned his master and PhD degrees from the Florida State University. He also served as a Visiting Researcher at Duke University Marine Laboratory, North Carolina. He has reviewed journal articles for the following publications: Acta Oecologica, Animal Behavior, Behaviour, Biological Bulletin, Helgoland Marine Research, Invertebrate Biology, J. Marine Biological Association, U.K., Caribbean Journal of Science, Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Marine and Freshwater Behavior & Physiology, Marine and Freshwater Research, Symbiosis. He has reviewed grant proposals for both NSF and NOAA.

Dr. Cheng Siong Chin received the Ph.D from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2008. He has a M.Sc. (Distinction) in Advanced Control from The University of Manchester in 2001 shortly after he received his B.Eng. (Hons) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Mechatronics Specialization). He was a Lecturer in Mechatronics Engineering at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. He had also involved in a research funded project with British Gas Asia Pacific and NTU on design of a semi-autonomous marine vehicle for oil and gas companies in 2003. He currently holds three U.S. Patents. He is a CEng, EUR ING, MIET and SMIEEE.  He is authoring a book titled “Applied Control Engineering using MATLAB” by Bentham Science Publisher and is a Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The Mediterranean Journal of Measurement and Control. His expertise is in the areas of modelling, simulation, control systems design of marine vehicle systems such as AUV/ROV/surface vessel.

Viney Aneja is a Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences, North Carolina State University. He obtained his B. Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India; and MS and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Chemical Engineering, N. C. State University, Raleigh, N.C.Before joining the faculty of the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at N. C. State in 1987, he conducted and supervised research at Corporate Research and Development, General Electric Company, New York, and Northrop Service, in Research Triangle Park in the areas of environmental engineering and separations technology. In 2001 he was also appointed Professor of Environmental Technology, Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at the University of Uppsala, Sweden in 1979; at Jawahar Lal Nehru University in New Delhi, India in 1980; and at the Arrhenius Laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden in 1985. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture appointed him as a member of the U.S. Agricultural Air Quality Task Force. He is a member of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board Environmental Engineering Committee, and also a member of the US EPA’s SAB Integrated Nitrogen Committee. He is a Member Representative of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO.

Markus Frederich is an Associate Professor in Marine Sciences at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He obtained his Masters degree from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany and his PhD from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, University of Bremen, Germany. Before joining the faculty at the University of New England in 2003 he was a research fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He conducted research at the Station Biologique de Roscoff in France, at the Instituto de la Patagonia, Universidad de Magallanes in Punta Arenas, Chile, and at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory in Salisbury Cove, Maine. He has authored 11 research articles, several of them together with undergraduate students as co-authors He is serving as a review editor for the Journal Frontiers in Aquatic Physiology and reviewed manuscripts for many leading journals such as the Journal of Experimental Biology, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Biological Bulletin, and others. He also reviewed grant proposals for NSF and NOAA and served on an NSF review panel. He is a member of the American Physiological Society and the Mount Desert Island Corporation.

Dr. Huan Zhang has received his PhD in Tokyo University of Fishery. University during the period of 1989-1995. Currently, he is working as Research Assistant Professor in University of Connecticut He has authored 53 research articles/books.

Elena Sarropoulou, young researcher in the Department of Genetic and Molecular Biotechnology at the Institute of Marine Biology and Genetics belonging to the Centre For Marine Research. She performed her dissertation at the Max-Planck- Institute Tuebingen and received her PhD from the Eberhards-Karls-Unverstitaet, Tuebingen, Germany. She has published peer-reviewed papers, and she was author of one book and one book chapter. She has been teaching experience of more than 5 years. She served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the area of molecular biology and Genomics. She organized 2 conferences and several workshops.

Giacomo Zaccone is Full Professor, field BIO/06 Comparative Anatomy and Cytology, Dept. of Animal Biology and Marine Ecology, University of Messina Author of 200 papers mainly published in international authoritative journals. These papers also comprise many invited chapters appeared in both journals and books. Anthony D. Wright is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at James Cook University, Townsville, Queensland, Australia. He has co-authored 170 peer reviewed original research articles, 8 review articles, and 4 book chapters. He has been a teacher for his whole career which spans over 30 years, and includes experience in the classroom and laboratory alike, in five different countries and on three continents. He is a Fellow and the Royal Chemical Society and a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Pharmaconosy. He serves as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in all areas relating to Natural Products Research with an emphasis on marine and microbial products, and NMR method development and application. He received a number of awards including an ETH (Zurich, Switzerland) PhD., scholarship and the American Society of Pharmacy Young Investigator Awardee.

Rongxin Cui received the B.Eng. and PhD degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi′an China, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. From August 2008 to August 2010, he worked as a research fellow at the Centre for Offshore Research & Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore. Since September 2010, he has been with the College of Marine Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi′an China, where he is currently an associate professor. He has been serving as the program committee member of several international conferences and reviewers for around ten journals in the area of control, robotics, and ocean engineering. His current research interests are nonlinear system control, multiple robots system, control and navigation of underwater vehicles, and system development.
