Artificial T-cell receptors also known as Chimeric antigen receptor (CARs) are engineered receptor, which graft an arbitary specificity onto an immune effector cell. Artificial T cell receptors are under investigation as a therapy for cancer, using a technique called asoptive cell transfer. T cell are removed from a patient and modified so that they express receptors specific to the particular form of cancer. The T cells, which can then recognise and kill the cancer cells, are reintriduced into the patient. phase1 clinical studies of this appraoch have shown efficacy.
