Sexually transmitted diseases and infections are prominent concern in reproductive studies like andrology. These are major health, social and economic challenges in most developing and developed countries of the world including Nigeria. Majority of infected people living in rural areas in developing countries make use of traditional medicine due to limited access to modern healthcare facilities and the social stigma associated with the diseases. Medicinal plants and herbs contain substances known to modern and ancient civilization for their healing properties and these substances remain the basis for a large proportion of the commercial medications.
