About the Journal

Cell signaling is a process through which living cells interact with the cellular environment and neighbouring cells. Cells contain Glycoproteins or Glycolipids as receptors on their plasma membrane which detects the signals. When a complementary ligand (signaling molecule) comes and binds to the receptor, it initiates a chain of reactions within the cell, ultimately leading to a response.

The Journal of Cell Signaling is a peer reviewed journal. This journal offers an open access platform for authors to publish their research. The Journal of cell signaling is an open access journal which mainly focuses on effector systems, such as protein kinases, lipid signaling pathways, cyclic nucleotide signaling processes, NO signaling and ion channels. The production, regulation, degradation and action of second messengers; the structure, regulation, degradation and action of receptors; Guanine nucleotide regulatory proteins; Bio-informatics studies related to cell signaling mechanisms; Compartmentalization/compartmentation of signaling systems; Anchor/scaffold signaling proteins; The effect of cellular signaling events on the functioning, growth and differentiation of cells in normal and pathological states and also cellular oncogenes.

The Journal of Cell Signaling accepts all types of articles including research, review, case reports, commentaries, hypotheses, meeting reports and short reports. This scientific journal is using Editorial Tracking System for maintaining quality in peer review process. Review processing is performed by the editorial board members of Journal of Cell signaling or by outside experts. Minimum two independent reviewers approval followed by editor approval is mandatory for acceptance of any manuscript.

Journal of Cell signaling is supporting 5th International Conference and Exhibition on Cell and Gene Therapy which is going to be held during May 19-21, 2016 San Antonio, USA. The theme of the conference is "Frontiers in Cell and Gene Therapy: From Bench to Bedside".

Signal Transduction

Signal Transduction is well known as cell signaling where the transmission of molecular signals takes place from exterior of the cell to the interiors. However the signals those are received are than transmitted into the cell in order to guard a suitable response. Cell surface receptors are used to initiate the signal transduction. These receptors have the capability to perforate the plasma membrane and possess intrinsic enzyme activity.

Cell Signaling Pathways

The pathway is perused due to some sequence of biochemical changes that occur within the cell of by alteration of the potential of cell membrane due to the motion of ions in or out of the cell. Receptors which are involved to produce biochemical changes can perform it either directly using intrinsic enzyme activities involving the receptors or by triggering intracellular messenger molecules.

Cell Signal

The nature of cell signal is chemical where neurotransmitters falls under small range signaling molecules that move across the little spaces that lies between the neurons or between neurons and muscle cells. Cells comprises of proteins that are called receptors that helps in binding signaling molecules and to trigger other physiological response.

Mapk Pathway Cell Signaling

Mapk is commonly known as Mitogen activated protein kinase. It is considered as a highly conserved family comprises of serine or threonine protein kinase which are intricate in several elementary cellular processes like proliferation, differentiation, stress response, apoptosis and for further survival.

Apoptotic Pathways

Apoptosis is also known as cell death. The ability of malignant cells to elude apoptosis is considered as an indicator of cancer. One of the characteristic of cancerous cells is to initiate apoptosis in healthy cells because they can contravene cell cycle checkpoints and have the ability to confront the exposure to cytotoxic agents.

Cell Signaling Mechanisms

The transmission of signaling information from one cell to the other cell occurs in three phase receptor mediated signaling. In first phase the binding component is an extracellular ligand which results in forming a complex with cell surface receptor. While in second the activated receptor evokes a rise in formation of messengers or the cytoplasmic protein recruitment. The activation of enzyme occurs in third phase.

Signaling Systems

It comprises of a sequence of channels which are reserved or dedicated commonly called as signaling links. There are characterized into three areas of network points signaling points: Service switching points (SSPs), Signal transfer point (STPs), and Service control points (SCPs).

Lipid Signaling Pathways

It is widely classified as any biological signaling event including a lipid messenger which is used to bind a protein target that can be a receptor, kinase or phosphatase which arbitrates the actions of these on lipids on particular cellular response.

NO Signaling and Ion Channels

Ion channel signaling performs the turning on of an ion channel to allow the passage of ions through it. It is used to operate the neurotransmission, secretion and muscle contraction. It can be initiated at the plasma membrane to bring the alteration in its membrane potential, other chemical compounds and light or mechanical stress.

Molecular Signaling

Molecular signaling includes the molecules which perform by transmitting information between cells in the body. However the molecular characteristics of signaling molecules can differ highly. Some the molecules transmit signals for a short distance however some of them carry over long distances.

Signal Transduction Cascades

In order to transmit signals the cascades are used. Most widely used cascades for signal transduction are G-protein signal cascade, phosphatidylinositol signal cascades etc. The signal molecules are targeted to the cell to bind the cell surface receptors present on the plasma membrane. Further the signals are passed from receptor to an intracellular G-protein cascade which is encoded in human genome.

Extracellular signaling

The extracellular molecules such as hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokine growth factors or cell recognition molecules are allowed to bind the receptors in order to initiate changes in cells function. However the interaction using extracellular molecules is done by the synthesis and release of signal molecules from the signaling cells.
