Pharmacogenetics studies the inherited genetic differences in the metabolic pathways of drugs in terms of therapeutic actions. In simple, it is the study of how the actions of drugs in the human body vary with then patientsâ genes. It is based on the hypothesis that the differences in the drug actions from person to person is due to the presence or absence of special biomarkers which are single nucleotide polymorphs at the level of nuclear DNA, which code for the liver enzymes that are responsible for the pharmacokinetics of the drugs.
