Ocean Biogeochemistry

In this session the ways in which the growth of biological communities in the ocean are regulated, the roles such communities play in the global climate system and the influence of global climate change on these communities

Biogeochemistry deals with the effects of living organisms on the concentrations of chemical elements in the different reservoirs of Earth and with the cycles of chemical elements among reservoirs. The topic ranging from air-sea exchange with CO2, the role of physical mixing, the uptake of CO2 by marine algae, the fluxes of carbon and nitrogen through the marine food chain to the subsequent export of carbon to the depths of the ocean. Special emphasis is laid on predicting future climatic change. In this session the ways in which the growth of biological communities in the ocean are regulated, the roles such communities play in the global climate system and the influence of global climate change on these communities
