About the Journal

Journal of Cosmetology & Trichology is an open access, Peer reviewed journal. Cosmetology is the study and application of professional skills of beautifying the skin, face and hair. Branches of specialty include hairstyling, coloring, perming, scalp treatments, skin care, cosmetics, manicures, pedicures, Waxing, facials, and massages. Trichology is the branch of dermatology that specializes in the scientific study of the health of hair and scalp. Estheticians specialize in skin care.

The Journal of Cosmetology and Trichology collects data from reliable source of information on discoveries and current developments as original article, review articles, case reports, short communications, etc. It consists of the information about the new inventions and the use of different cosmetics.

This scientific journal is using Editorial Manager System for maintaining quality in peer review process. Review processing is performed by the editorial board members of Journal of Cosmetology and Trichology or by outside experts. Minimum two independent reviewers approval followed by editor approval is mandatory for acceptance of any manuscript. Authors may submit manuscripts and track their progress through the system. Reviewers can download manuscripts and submit their opinions to the editor. Editors can manage the whole submission/review/revise/publish process.

Alopecia

alopecia or baldness is excessive loss of hair from the head or body. The two main causes are:

Family history: the most common cause is heredity condition called male-pattern baldness.

Hormonal changes: temporary hair loss as seen in pregnancy, child birth or the onset of menopause and thyroid diseases.

Alopecia Areata

This type of nonscarring or Patchy hair loss. Hair loss occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles causing sudden hair loss that leaves smooth, roundish bald patches on the skin. It is caused due to Scalp infections like infection by ringworm, Skin disorders like lupus and sarcoidosis and Medications like drugs used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, hypervitaminosis, high blood pressure and birth control, Radiation therapy to the head, hairstyles and treatments.

Diagnosis for Hair Loss

• Blood test: Disease conditions related to hair loss, such as thyroid disease and cancer or hormonal imbalance can cause hair loss.

• Pull test: Doctor gently pulls several dozen hairs to see how many come out. This helps determine the stage of the shedding process.

• Scalp biopsy: To examine the hair roots. This can help determine whether an infection is causing hair loss.

Light microscopy: Microscopy helps in finding disorders of the hair shaft.
