Molecular Biology is the branch of biology that deals with the molecular basis of biological activity and also focuses on understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell such as the interaction between the different types of DNA, RNA and protein biosynthesis as well as governs the regulation of these interactions. Clinical research and medical therapies arising from molecular biology are partly covered under gene therapy. This field encompasses various other areas of biology and chemistry, especially genetics and biochemistry. The use of molecular biology or molecular cell biology approaches in medicine is called as molecular medicine. Molecular biology also plays an important role in understanding formations, actions and regulations of various parts of cells which can be used efficiently for targeting new drugs, diagnosis of a disease, physiology of the Cell. The most common techniques used in molecular biology are Expression cloning used to study to protein function, Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for DNA Amplification, Gel electrophoresis- to separate DNA, RNA, and proteins on the basis of their size with the help of electric field, Blotting techniques such as southern, northern, western, eastern blotting are used detect DNA, RNA, proteins and post translational modification of proteins.
