Alberto R De Caterina is a resident in Cardiology at University School of Medicine, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy He graduated in Medicine in 2006 at University School of Medicine, Pisa and in 2007 at Scuola Superiore e di Studi Universitari S. Anna, Pisa. In his period in Pisa he developed his interest in coronary microvascular dysfunction, especially in the area of heart failure and dilated cardiomyopathy. After moving in Rome, he translated his interest in Tako-Tsubo syndrome. Specifically, together with dr. L. Galiuto and professor F. Crea, by demonstrating the reversibility of perfusion defect at Myocardial Contrast Echocardiography during adenosine stimuli, he provided the definitive demonstration of acute reversible microvascular dysfunction as a common pathogenetic mechanism in Tako-Tsubo syndrome.. He is a member and collaborator of the Italian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology. He is serving as reviewer of several journals, including American Journal of Cardiology and International Journal of Cardiology.
