Biography

Dr. Ali Mahmoud El Halawany was graduated at 1996 from Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University with a general grade excellent with honor. Afterward he worked as teaching assistant in Department of Pharmacognosy, Cairo University in the period between 1996 until 2002 at this time he obtained his master degree in pharmacognosy. From 2002 till 2004 he worked as assistant lecturer in Department of Pharmacognosy, Cairo University.  At 2004 he was selected for MEXT scholarship by the Japanese government to be enrolled as PhD student in institute of natural medicine in Toyama. He worked for 3 years under the supervision of professor Dr. Masao hattori till he got the PhD. After taking the PhD he was awarded a COE scholarship in the same laboratory for 6 months followed by another 6 months as a visiting researcher. At 2008 he worked as assistant professor in Department of Pharmacognosy, Cairo University for 6 months after which he worked at institue of natural medicine as a foreign researcher for 1 year till 2010. From april 2010 and till now he is working as assistant professor in department of pharmacognosy, Cairo university in addition to teaching in several faculties in Egypt such as Helwan University and el Nahda University in Beni sweef. 

Research Interest

Phytochemical techniques:
Isolation and identification of medicinal plant constituents
Chromatographic techniques (TLC, CC, VLC, MPLC, GC and HPLC-Ms/Ms)
Computer based design and synthesis and derivatization of naturally occurring biologically active compounds.
Structure elucidation techniques: Ability to use 1D and 2D NMR techniques, MS, UV and IR. In addition to structure elucidation of naturally occurring compounds.
Microscopical and macroscopical examination of medicinal plants.
Biological techniques:
Working with human cell lines (e.g. MCF-7 cells...etc)
Working with recombinant yeast cells (Yeast-Two hybrid assay for estrogenic activity)
