Andrew D. Foey received his PhD from the University of Bath in 1996. He completed studies in innate immune mechanisms underlying rheumatoid arthritis in 1996 at the Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases. Since then, Dr Foey has held post-doctoral positions at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology (London) working under the guidance of, and collaborating with Profs Fionula Brennan, Marc Feldman and Brian Foxwell, developing a keen interest in macrophage functionality, subset plasticity and immune signalling involved in driving inflammatory pathologies. In 2003, he took up a position as an MRC Career Development Fellow in Cambridge where he expanded his interests in the context of mucosal innate immune mechanisms of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Since 2005, Dr Foey took up an academic position as lecturer in immunology at the University of Plymouth. With the development of Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, he has forged collaborations focussing on macrophage-mediated mucosal responses which drive immune fate decisions in inflammatory pathologies and tumour development in both mucosal tissues of the GIT and the mouth.
