Dr. Andy Sewell trained in chemistry and obtained a PhD in the Department of Genetics at the University of Liverpool in 1991. He undertook postdoctoral studies at the University of Utah 199194. He was promoted to the faculty in Utah in 1994 but returned to the UK in 1996 to undertake studies in the area of immunology in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. In 2000 he received a prestigious Senior Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust. In December 2001 his research group moved from the John Radcliffe Hospital to The Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research within Oxford. In July 2006 he obtained a Distinguished Professorship at Cardiff University. He continues to study Tcell activation with a focus on Tcell antigens and the receptors that recognize them. He has several established connections throughout the UK biotechnology industry.
