ADJUNCT ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, EPIDEMIOLOGY
The University of North Carolina, USA

Biography

Dr. Eric Donaldson started his career working in a bioinformatics lab investigating endogenous retroviruses in the human genome as an undergraduate researcher.  He then went on to graduate school where he studied coronavirus evolution and pathogenesis.  As a research assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Gillings School of Gloabl Public Health at the University of North Carolina he currently investigates norovirus evolution and vaccine design, coronavirus evolution and cross species transmission, and Dengue virus evolution and structural bioinformatics.  In addition, Dr. Donaldson heads up a metagenomics study identifying novel viruses in a variety of bat species, and developing tools for virome analysis.

Research Interest

I am interested in studying cross species transmission of viruses that originate in zoonotic sources and jump into the human population, virus evolution and pathogenesis, and computational biology.
