Biography

As an educator and environmental toxicologist, I feel it is imperative to open the minds of our community regarding the environment, detriment to the environment and how our actions can lead health issues. I received a B.S. in Biology at Delta State University, a M.S. in Environmental Health from Mississippi Valley State University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Jackson State University. I have had the opportunity to teach students on a variety of levels. My teaching experience range includes working with secondary school students who had dropped out of school to military personnel. My research experience includes determining the cytotoxic and molecular impact organophosphates have on human liver carcinoma (HepG2) cells. While my career path did not include teaching or research initially, after having stepped into the field over 15 years ago, I find it to be very rewarding and can’t imagine doing anything different.

Research Interest

Molecular and cellular mechanisms of chemical-induced toxicity; environmental mutagenicity and carcinogenicity; chemical modulation of cell cycle progression; chemical-induced apoptosis and necrosis; environmental pathology and health risk assessment.
