Florian Lang was born in Ravensburg, Germany (1945). He is the professor and chairperson of Physiological Institute,University of Tübingen. He completed Medical studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich in 1971, Research Fellow at the department for Physiology and Biophysics Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota (1976) and Fellow at the Institute for Physiology, Innsbruck (1977). He was an Assistant professor at the Institute for Physiology, Innsbruck (1977-1982), Full professor at the Institute for Physiology, Innsbruck (1982-1992).
His research interests include renal tubular transport processes, hormonal regulation of ion channels and transport across the cell membranes of renal epithelia, erythrocytes, hepatocytes, neurons, retinal cells and fibroblasts, the role of ion transport in the regulation of cell metabolism, cell volume, cell proliferation, cell death, inflammation and host-pathogen interaction.
