Leila Chaychi

Biography

Leila Chaychi, MD was born in Iran/Tehran. She received some of her undergrad training is Spain/Madrid and obtained her medical degree from Tehran Azad University in 2001 and was appointed as a research fellow in the department of Neurosurgery in Boston children Hospital under the supervision of professor Larry Benowitz. Her main project has focused on nerve regeneration in both central and peripheral nervous system after trauma related damage. As she developed special interest in the field of endocrinology she joined the lab of Professor Joseph Majzoub in Boston Children Hospital which her project has focused on CRH gene expression in pre-term labor placentas. She studied 800 placentas from Brigham and Women hospital which were collected over years. The manuscript for this study is under preparation at this moment. Leila started her Internship (first year of residency) in Internal Medicine in July 2005 at Yale school of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine in Massachusetts at Framingham Union Hospital due to family relocation in July 2008. During her residency She presented number posters at ACP, CT and MA chapters and she received the first award for the best poster in ACP, MA chapter in 2008. Leila completed her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical School in 2010, joined the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Miami, Miller school of Medicine as assistant clinical professor.
During her fellowship, Leila presented a number of posters including one of her clinical projects to Endo Society and ATA. She has first authored number of interesting case reports related to thyroid, parathyroid and lipid metabolism in 2009-2010. Also, she has submitted two clinical studies for publication. She has worked closely with Dr. Richard Comi and Jeffery Cohen on the association of the serum vitamin D level with the level of diabetic polyneuropathy. This study has been accepted for publication. Her other project focused on the liposarcoma biomarkers and their association with lipid metabolism, which was supervised by Dr. William Kinlaw. The study has been submitted and accepted for publication as well.
Since she joined university of Miami Miller school of medicine has been engaged in thyroid cancer research and applications for NIH grant in the field of thyroid cancer and its treatment novelties.
