Biography

Dr Carlstrom received his Pharm D and PhD at Uppsala University, Sweden in 2003 and 2008, respectively. He completed his postdoc training at Georgetown University, Washington DC, where he studied the roles of adenosine, nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species in regulation of renal microcirculation and in hypertension. In short, Dr Carlstrom will continue as an Assistant Professor in Medicine in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. His main research interest is the role of oxidative stress and nitric oxide deficiency in development of renal and cardiovascular disease and in type-2 diabetes, with focus on novel nutritional and therapeutic strategies. He has authored several research articles and reviews, and served as peer reviewer for many reputed journals. He is a member of several international scientific societies including American Heart Association, American Physiological Society, Society for Free Radical Research and Scandinavian Physiological Society, and is continuously writing scientific evaluations for Faculty of 1000 Medicine.

Research Interest

My main research interest is the role of oxidative stress and nitric oxide deficiency in development of renal and cardiovascular disease.
