Dr. Nikolaus McFarland graduated from the University of Chicago in 1992 and was elected into the Sigma Xi research society. He completed medical and graduate training at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and then went on to the University of Virginia for residency training in neurology.On completion he pursued fellowship training and research in Parkinsons and Movement Disorders atthe MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND).Hehas recently joined the Neurology Department at the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor. He sees patients at the UF Center for Movement Disorders & Neurorestoration and continues his research, now in the Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disorders. His research focuses on understanding the pathological mechanisms of Parkinson disease and related disorders and, in particular, the role of alpha-synuclein in cell toxicity and neurodegeneration using targeted viral models.
