Biography

Dr. Peter Winn has a BSc.Chemical Physics (University of Bristol, 1989). He studied for a PhD with Chris Reynolds (University of Essex, 1996), working on the parameterization process for molecular mechanics force-fields. In his thesis he pointed out the need to correct for intramolecular polarisation in the underlying molecular mechanics charges when developing polarisable forcefields. With Graham Richards (University of Oxford) he focused on methods for the development of chloride channel inhibitors. With Rebecca Wade at the EMBL, Heidelberg and later at EML (Heidelberg), PW and co-workers produced highly cited works on the function and structure of the cytochromes P450, and also on the function and structure of the E2 enzymes of the ubiquitination pathway. Since 2007 Peter has been an RCUK Fellow and Lecturer in the Department of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham (UK), with a focus on modelling the structure function and interactions of biomolecules.
