Biography

Samy L Habib is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine, The University of Texas, Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX, USA and has strong background in molecular carcinogenesis, with specific training and expertise in several research areas. He was a co-Investigator on several previous and current projects funded by ADA, NKF, AHA, VA and NIH. Attesting to his national visibility,he has been selected to serve as a regular reviewer for the Medical Research Program of the Department of Defense and Editorial Board Member of 2 Journals.

Research Interest

Carcinogenesis in diabetes, Mutations in DNA repair gene in diabetes and cancer,  Role of Tuberin in Neuronal Degeneration,  Role of Tuberin in Renal Hypertrophy and Fibrosis, Role of Tuberin in Tumorigenesis, Role of tuberin/mTOR pathway in apoptosis. (1) Understanding the role of oxidant stress in the pathogenesis of renal cell carcinoma (2) Screening cancer and diabetic patients for DNA repair gene mutation(s), (3) Explore the mechanism of renal hypertrophy and fibrosis in diabetic patients, (4) Study the mechanism by which TSC2 gene regulates the DNA damage (8-oxodG) and repair (OGG1) pathways and other signal transduction including cell cycle proteins in the pathogenesis of renal carcinogenesis, (5) study the role of tuberin/mTOR pathway in apoptosis in diabetes, (6) Study the role of tuberin/mTOR pathway in the regulation of the neuronal damage in Alzheimers diseases (AD) and Parkinson diseases.
