Limin Chen is a lab manager and research scientist in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He has received a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Toronto, 2005. He completed his MD in China in 1987 and received an MSc degree in Cancer Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Sichuan University China in 1990. He received World Health Organization WHO Fellowship and Fellowships from National CIHR Research Training Program in Hepatitis C NCRTPHepC and Canadian Institutes of Health Research CIHR. Dr Ankita Garg is in School of Medicine at University of California San Diego and investigating the role of myeloid derived suppressor cells mediated immune suppression in HIV-1 infection. She earned Ph.D. from SGPGIMS, India for her work on understanding molecular mechanism of Ethambutol resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and immune pathogenesis of ethambutol resistant M tuberculosis strain. During postdoctoral research at UTHCT Texas, Dr Garg studied the role of natural killer and regulatory T cells in M tuberculosis infection. She has served as Senior Research Scientist in R&D Division of Panacea Biotec and Lupin Ltd, two well-established drug discovery and development organizations. She was responsible for rationalized selection of targets and enriching the discovery pipeline including drug discovery, in-vitro and in-vivo assays, cross-functions such as DMPK, toxicology for diverse therapeutic areas. Dr Garg has over nine years of experience in translational research pertaining to infectious disease and immune disorders.

Dr. Thanh  is also a Visiting Professor at European Engineering School in Chemistry, Polymers and Materials, University of Strasbourg, France and at School of Materials Sciences, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan.
In January 2009, she was appointed a UCL-RI readership (associate professor) in nanotechnology based at Department of Physics and Astronomy, University College London and The Davy Faraday Research Laboratory, The Royal Institution of Great Britain, the oldest independent scientific research body in the world. There she led a very dynamic research team focused on the design, synthesis and study of the physical properties of magnetic nanomaterials as well as their applications in biomedicine. Dr. Thanh has been an invited speaker at over 80 institutes and scientific meetings. She is the sole editor of a seminal book “MAGNETIC NANOPARTICLES: FROM FABRICATION TO CLINICAL APPLICATIONS” book, Boca Raton: CRC Press/Taylor and Francis published in February 2012. Furthermore, she has been a guest editor of Philosophical Transactions A of the Royal Society on the theme issue of “nanoparticles” published in September 2010. Currently she is the guest editor for Nanoscale (impact factor 5.9) on a themed Issue "Functional Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications" to be published in 2013. She overcame fierce competition to be the lead exhibitor for Royal Society Science Summer Exhibition (RSSE) on “Nanoscale science: A giant leap for mankind” in London in July 2010 to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Society. New Scientist ranked the exhibition as one of the best. Currently, she is a member of editorial board of Advances in Natural Sciences: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology as well as a committee member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Colloid & Interface Science Group and the Society of Chemical Industry Colloid & Surface Chemistry Group. She has organised 15 international conferences including 2 American Chemical Society Symposium in 2010 and 2012 and is the Chair of Scientific committee of a future prestigious RSC Faraday discussion on “Functional nanoparticles for biomedical applications” in 2014. Laurence Motte is a Professor at the University of Paris 13, France and manages Nanomaterials group in the CSPBAT Laboratory. Her topic is to develop nanomaterials for biological applications. Subhash C. Basu is a Professor emeritus of Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Notre Dame. He will be the President of CDDRF Cancer Drug Delivery Research Foundation to be established at Notre Dame. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 1961-66. He completed his BSc in Chemistry Honors from Calcutta University, Calcutta, India in 1960. He is an elected Fellow of AAAS, 1988. He received Jacob Javits Neurological Research Award from NIH, 1988-98. He received Distinguished Biochemist Medal from the Calcutta University in 1989. He became an inducted member of the John Hopkins Honor Society in 1995. He is serving as an editorial board member of three reputed journals Glycoconjugate J, J Current Drug Targets and J Bioanalysis and Biomedicine and as a reviewer of 5 other journals. He has more than 250 publications in National and International Journals. Dr. Hossam M. Ashour was born in Cairo, Egypt. He got his BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy Cairo University, Egypt. He ranked first in his class of a thousand students. He was then appointed as Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology Cairo University. After spending two years at Cairo University and based on his accomplishments he was offered a graduate research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, USA. Thus, he joined University of Texas Southwestern Immunology program and got his MS degree in 2004 followed by his PhD in 2006. He was then appointed as a tenured faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy Cairo University, Egypt. After spending an year of research and teaching at Cairo University he was offered a research fellow position at the prestigious National Institutes of Health NIH in Bethesda Maryland. After finishing his research fellowship he was offered an Assistant Professor position at Wayne State University in which he established an active research laboratory that he currently maintains. Dr. Ashour has remarkable high-impact publications and is a distinguished editorial board member and reviewer for many scientific journals. He is also a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society for Clinical and Translational Science SCTS, Belgian Immunological Society, The World Association of Medical Editors and other prominent organizations. I am currently an Associate Professor at Brigham Young University and I am engaged in several entrepreneurial ventures. I have recently served as the Co-director of the Center for Investigational Therapeutics at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and an Associate Professor in the Department of Oncological Sciences at the University of Utah. Our current research is directed towards three dimensional molecular structures elucidation of selected organic compounds in the solution and/or solid state by means of chiroptical methods, circular dichroism (CD) in particular. Currently we are focusing on the structure-chiroptical properties’ relationship of classical and non-classical ß-lactam analogues, with an emphasis on carba-analogues of penicillin’s and cephalosporin’s. Special attention is devoted to the stereostructure determination of transparent molecules. For this purpose, we developed a methodology which uses various complexes with two transition metal atoms linked together by a single or multiple bond of general formula M2(OCOR)4, with M = Mo, Rh, Ru or Re. These achiral complexes act as auxiliary chromophores. After the exchange of achiral ligands of the stock complex for different types of chiral ligands, e.g., amino acids, glycols, aminols, diamines, alcohols, amines, etc., optically active complexes are formed. CD of these complexes can easily be measured and used for the correlation between signs of Cotton effects (CEs) obtained and the structure of investigated compounds.

Dr. Shenfeng Qiu was trained in Medicine in China (M.D., 1994; M.P.H., 1997). He obtained his Ph.D. degree from University of California, Riverside, with his dissertation focusing on a neurotoxin (domoic acid). His Ph.D. thesis work has uncovered novel sequelae resulting from lower levels of domoic acid exposure to the nervous system (neurotoxicity), which include changes of glutamate receptors developmental expression profiles, altered CaMKII autophosporylation, differential phosphorylation of glutamate receptor subunit GluA1, and disrupted long-term potentiation. Dr. Shenfeng Qiu completed his postdoctoral trainings at Vanderbilt and University of Southern California, with research efforts focusing on genetic/environmental determinants of brain development. The overall interest of Dr. Shenfeng Qiu's laboratory is to understand brain origins of neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and Schizophrenia. To achieve this goal, the lab utilizes mouse models developed for these disorders and explores the aberrant organization and function of cortical microcircuits that may relate to disease etiology. One project currently funded by NIH involves studying the role of MET protein tyrosine kinase. MET protein and its ligand hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) are transiently expressed in the developing brain across many species. However, the role of this signaling system in brain development remains largely unknown. Human genetic works have identified MET as a major risk gene for autism spectrum disorders, a collection of childhood diseases of neurodevelopmental origin. The overall goal of this project is to identify the mechanisms by which MET signaling affect neuronal growth and functional maturation. This research objective is approached at molecular, cellular and system levels using experimental mouse models. The mechanistic insights gained from studying mice may be extrapolated to humans. Thus a better understanding of MET-mediated signaling in brain development may lead to novel approaches on behavioral and developmental interventions that could improve the outcomes of ASD and potentially other neurodevelopmental disorders. To achieve our research goals, we are taking the advantages of in vivo and in vitro preparations of mouse brain tissues to examine the neuronal signaling in both normal animals and clinical models of neurodevelopmental disorders. We approach our questions by using a myriad of neuroscience techniques including morphological (histology, biocytin labeling, Golgi impregnation), functional (hippocampal slice field potential recording; patch clamp whole cell recording; laser scanning photostimulation for local circuit mapping; the developing optogenetic approaches of long-range circuit mapping), and molecular genetics (biochemistry and molecular biology experiments; siRNA mediated antisense knockdown; next generation sequencing/RNAseq, genetic mouse lines modeling human disorders).

    My study has been totally researched in physiological and biochemical adaptation of cardiac and skeletal muscles to a new environment. First of all, Human Adaptability in measuring aerobic work capacity on migrant Japanese to America was evaluated(5th General Assembly of the International Biological Programme (IBP) (Seattle,U.S.A., 1972). The result was that a new environment has an important role of changes in morphology and function in humans (Human Biol. 1974, JIBP SYNTHESIS, 1975.

    I have been studied Biochemical Adaptation of Skeletal Muscle to Hypoxia and Exercise.  The main finding was that hypoxia induced muscle fiber transition from slow to fast twitch fiber (Shinshu University Press,1988,  Neurochem Res., 1990, Brain Res Bull, 1990, Neurosci Lett, 1991, Aviat Space Environ Med, 1992, Comp Bichem Physiol., 2003, 2004, J Anat, 1992).

     In regard to Cardiac Adaptation, it was studied on exercise response which exercise indicated improvement in metabolism following myocardial infarction( Jpn Circ J, 2001,, J Nucl Cardiol, 2001, J Appl Physiol, 2004, , Jpn J.Physiol,2005).

   Muscle Adaptation to Physical Training was also studied related to muscle fiber property and motor neuron, and muscle atrophy( Euro J Appl Physiol, 1987, Eur J Appl Physiol Occup Physiol, 1990, Acta Physiol Scand, 1990, Jpn J Physiol, 1991, Acta Physiol Scand, 1991, Neuorobiol Aging, 1993, J Physiol, 2005, Acta Physiol(Oxf), 2009, Exp Gerontol, 2009, Biol Pharm Bull, 2014, SpringPlus 2015).
