Dr. Suresh Kumar is a Senior Scientist, Borlaug Fellow, and Indo-US Research Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (Plant Science) from Post Graduate School, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, in the year 2004. He is serving as Sr. Scientist in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, India. He is a Visiting Scientist and IUSSTF Fellow at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. Dr. Kumar has been awarded prestigious Borlaug Fellowship jointly by the US Department of Agriculture, USA and ICAR, India, in the year 2008. Under this fellowship program, he visited University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, USA, and worked with Prof. Hari B. Krishnan. He was also awarded IUSSTF Research Fellowship by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum in the year 2009. Under the Indo-US Research fellowship program, he visited Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. Dr. Kumar is also member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Microbial and Biochemical Technology, the Journal of Medicinal Plants Research, and reviewer for several prestigious journals including Transgenic Research, Plant Cell Tissue and Organ Culture, Acta Physiologiae Plantarum etc.

Dr. Satinder K. Brar is Assistant Professor at Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, Eau, Terre et Environnement (INRS-ETE), University of Québec, Québec, Canada. She has received a PhD in Water Sciences from INRS-ETE in 2007. Earlier, she has completed her M.Tech in Environmental Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Mumbai, India and M.Sc in Organic Chemistry from Pune University. She is a recipient of the ASCE State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering award (2007) and ASCE Rudolf gold medal (2008) for her originality of the research contributions. Francesco Vinale was born in Naples (Italy), the 1st Dec. 1970. He is author of 2 patents and over 110 articles published on scientific journals, reviews, book chapters, abstracts and proceedings of national and international congresses (Scopus: Sum of the Times Cited = 382, h index=10; ISI Web: h Index = 11, Sum of the Times Cited 422; Google scholar h Index = 12, Sum of the Times Cited = 595). Reviewer of various international journals and collaborates with various companies involved in the development and commercialization of biopesticides, and that develop methods to remediate contaminated soil and water by using microorganisms. He is responsible or involved in numerous research projects financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and the European Union. Biography :

Dr. Subbiah Poopathi was awarded several honours and endowments for the academic distinction through out the career. A prestigious “Sri. Madana Ramamoorthy Memorial Gold Medal” was awarded for distinction in the subject of Zoology. Several grants and fellowships were received from various agencies including ICMR, DBT and DST etc., other than Young Scientists Award: 2001-2002. ICMR Best Scientist award was received recently from Union home minister of health & family welfare, Government of India. He has been working in the field of biomedical research for more than 20 years and has contributed extensively to the field of biological control of mosquito vectors, resistance and its management. His work on deltamethrin impregnated hessian curtains for protection against mosquitoes was the pioneer work in South India. He has innovated a new technique to study the molecular mode of action of bacterial toxins in mosquito vectors where preceding methods had cumbersome on the process. He has made outstanding contributions in the field of recycling of biological waste materials from the environment for the production of bio-pesticides in mosquito control. Invention on the bird feather based bio-pesticides, a process for attracting and killing the mosquitoes from bacterial filtrates are the other contributions. His contribution in these fields has led to his nomination in the editorial board, reviewers, examiners etc. More than fifty scientific papers in national and international journals and chapters in book were published with the credit of all first authorship in the record. He has got three patents.

Biography :

Dr. Dahlene Fusco is an MD PhD with board certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Her career has been marked by several patients who died of infectious diseases for which treatment was inadequate or unavailable. Her scientific interest is in understanding the mechanism through which RNA pathogens evade their host. Her clinical interest is in development of more effective antiviral medications for RNA viruses. Dr. Fusco is now studying RNA pathogen-host interactions in the laboratory of Dr. R. Chung, investigating the effect of genetic polymorphisms on innate immune response to HCV. She plans to apply the results of this study toward development of novel antivirals with decreased toxicity compared to standard HCV therapy. Such drugs will have potential for greater usefulness in resource limited settings, compared to standard therapy, and may also be effective against non-HCV viruses.

Dr. Rodrigo Franco received his PhD in the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City during the period of 1999-2004. He completed in 2009 a his postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS/NIH). Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He serves as an editorial member of the Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods journal and acts as ad hoc reviewer for several important journals such as Cell Death and Differentiation, Journal of Neurochemistry, Chemico-Biological Interactions and Experimental Cell Research. He has authored over 30 research articles/book chapters. He is a member of Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine. He has been honored with different awards from recognized organizations such as the International/National Society for Neurochemistry, the European Cell Death Organization, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Luo has received his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2006. He specialized in surface water quality control at Washington State University and in pesticide risk assessment at University of California, Davis. Currently, he is working as environmental scientist at California Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Ping Gong has received his PhD in ecotoxicology from the Chinese Academy of Science in 1995. During his Postdoctoral training, he embarked on a career built upon computational toxicology, genomics and bioinformatics approaches. Currently, he is senior scientist working as on-site contractor in the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. He has pioneered earthworm toxicogenomics research and successfully initiated and completed several multi-year projects in this field. He is a member of International Society of Intelligent Biological Medicine (ISIBM), Midsouth Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society (MCBIOS) and Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). Dr. Stefan Jaronski obtained his M.S. (1972) in parasitology and Ph.D. (1978) in entomology (insect pathology) from Cornell University, where he studied Microsporida in blowflies and mosquitoes, respectively. After two postdoctoral appointments concerning biocontrol of mosquitoes, he left the academic community for industry, and changing from medical entomology to agricultural entomology. Jaronski worked at Abbott Laboratories from 1983 to 1992, his research involving commercial development of Beauveria bassiana, and Bacillus thuringiensis against a wide variety of insects. From 1992 until 2000 he worked at Mycotech Corp., a small U.S. venture biotech group commercializing Beauveria-based mycoinsecticides, and was involved in all aspects of commercial development, from early, basic research through field efficacy trials to generation of registration data, from basic mycology to formulation chemistry, from science to marketing. In 2000 Jaronski joined USDA ARS Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory in Sidney MT as Research Entomologist, in which position he is still.

He has been President of Environment & Pesticide association GRIFA (Gruppo di Ricerca Italiano Fitofarmaci ed Ambiente) since 2002. Sawada Prize for the best scientific paper published in 2004 on prediction of the environmental concentration of pesticide in paddy field and surrounding surface water bodies in recognition of its exceptional research achievement in the field of paddy and water environmental engineering.

Agronomist with undergraduate on Agriculture Engineer, and graduation on Entomology. Our laboratorys research focus is on ecological based tools for agricultural pest control on agricultural systems from organic to conventional row cropping ecosystems. The projects under development emphasize cultural practices and soft insecticides to manage cotton pests for the Semiarid region of northeast Brazil. Also, researches to increase the use of predators into an IPM approach such as natural enemies resistant to pyrethroid insecticides have been done. We have concentrated on lady beetles species such as Eriopis connexa and Hippodamia convergens. The studies are conducted by undergraduate, Master and Doctoral students from the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Entomologia Agrícola.

He has more than 16 years of research experience and 5 years of teaching experience both at U.G & P.G level, whose thrust areas are Metagenomics & Molecular biology(designed, developed and standardized various protocols), Environmental Microbiology (identified novel bacteria from water samples), Application of bioinoculants (effective bioinoculants were isolated from different regions and studied their effectiveness on selected plants species) and bacterial diversity(identified novel genus and species of various bacteria). He did his Ph.D from Kakatiya University, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, India under the able guidance of Prof S. Ram Reddy and got his PDF from Germany as DAAD fellow for 2 years. Dr. Pindi worked for more than 6 years as a Post doctoral fellow at CCMB under the esteemed supervision of Dr. Shivaji, Assistant Director, CCMB, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. He identified number of novel genus and species of bacteria from extreme habitats like deep sea, Arctic, Antarctic and Himalayan glaciers. Recently, he identified novel bacteria from stratosphere in collaboration with ISRO. For his contributions to the scientific field he was awarded Young Scientist Award by DST (2009), Commendation Certificate (for his services by the district Collector of Mahabubnagar). To his credit he got more than 53 (20-International; 33-National) research publications in renowned journals and authored number of chapters in popular text books.

Dr. Manas Sarkar received the prestigious DRDO-Fellowship in 2005 and joined Defence Research Laboratory (DRDO), Tezpur as Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in January 2005, and subsequently promoted to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in February 2007. After completing his tenure as DRDO-SRF in January 2010, he joined in National Centre for Disease Control (Min. of Health & FW, Govt. of India) as Deputy Assistant Director (Scientist), where he is working until date. He has research experience in the fields of medical entomology, vector biology & control, and insect molecular genetics. His doctoral research was on biochemical and molecular mechanisms of insecticide resistance. During his appointment in Defence Research Laboratory (DRDO), Tezpur, he conducted vector surveillance, bio-toxicity assays of biological and chemical insecticides against mosquitoes; assess the insecticide susceptibility status in mosquito vectors of human diseases. He performed the biochemical analysis and detoxifying enzyme profiling of mosquito vectors to understand the mechanisms of metabolic resistance (Sarkar et al. 2009a). He studied the life-stage specific responses of resistance in mosquitoes (Sarkar et al, 2009c). A considerable portion of his research work relates to molecular biology of insecticide resistance and the understanding of the target site mediated resistance mechanism such as the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms like knockdown resistance (kdr) in developing resistance phenotype (Sarkar et al, 2009b). His research work also focused on the distribution pattern of kdr in wild mosquito populations in India (Sarkar et al, 2009b). In this course, he have developed a Real-Time PCR assay based on Melting Curve Analysis using single-labeled probe for high-throughput genotyping of kdr mutation. This is for the first time that Simple-probe chemistry is used in insect molecular biology (Sarkar et al., 2010a)

Dr. D Balachandar is working as Associate Professor in Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India since 1997. He conferred his PhD in immobilized Cyanobacterial biofertilizer technology for rice ecosystem from the same university in 2003. He had his post-doc at Florida International University, Miami, USA with fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi in 2008. He investigated the soil microbial community profiling influenced by long-term nutrient managements during his stay at USA. He was in-charge for the Biofertilizer Production & Quality Control lab at the department for 5 years (2003-2008). He has been working with bioinoculants technology, formulations, delivery systems and marker strains to tracking the inoculants. He has been working with Rhizobia, Methlylobacteria, Pseudomonas and cyanobacteria and their interaction with agricultural crops. Presently, he is also exploring the mycorrhizal diversity in agricultural soils of Tamil Nadu state of India for P nutrition of crop plants through BRNS scheme.

Massimo Reverberi was graduated cum laude in Biology in 1996 and he has obtained his PhD in Botany at l\\Università di Roma “La Sapienza” in 2001. He has carried out his post-doc in CNR-IBAF area della ricerca di Roma -Montelibretti from 2002 to 2004 and has received research contract from 2004 to 2007 at “La Sapienza”. He was assistant Professor in Plant Pathology at the Università de L\\Aquila from 2006 to 2008. In 2007 he has obtained the permanent position as researcher/assistant professor in Plant Pathology (SSD: AGR12) at Università di Roma “La Sapienza” - sede di Latina where is assistant Professor in Molecular Plant Pathology. From 2009 is a permanent member of the PhD school in Botany in the same University. He has carried out studies regarding the interactions environment-plant-pathogens and in particular the ultrastructural and molecular analysis of walnut infected with Agrobacterium rhizogene, abiotic and biotic stress in potato, the ecological and molecular characterisation of phytopathogenic fungi belonging to Pleurotus genus, the molecular, physiological and proteomic characterisation of Phoma tracheiphila, the causal agent of lemon malsecco. Up-to-date he\\s carrying on studies on the relation among the oxidative stress, oxylipin formation and the biosynthesis of several mycotoxins in post-harvest pathogenic fungi (Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus, A. ochraceus, A. carbonarius, Penicillium expansum. P. verrucosum). He has participated to several Comunitary Project of the 5-6-7 FP mainly on the control of the biosynthesis of some mycotoxins (aflatoxins, ochratoxins and fusariotoxins) in different foodstuffs and on the application of the integrated control against fungi responsible for post-harvest diseases. He was involved in several Research Unit of National Project (progetti di Ateneo, di Facoltà, MURST e CNR). Massimo Reverberi has authored or coauthored 40 publications on various aspects of plant pathology, mycology and microbiology and attended many International Congresses.

Dr. Davidson is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Dr. Davidson grew up on a farm in rural Illinois before completing his B.S. (2005), M.S. (2007), and Ph.D. (2010) degrees in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from UIUC. He then spent 4 years in environmental consulting, researching and monitoring the fate and transport of agricultural pesticides from nonpoint sources of pollution, before returning to academia. Dr. Davidson’s research now focuses on watershed hydrology and addressing water quality issues that arise from nonpoint sources of pollution. More specifically, his research addresses a growing concern over chemical and microbial transport by increasing our understanding of transport kinetics in natural environments and by designing and evaluating methods and practices to reduce the transport of these contaminants to surface water sources. Agricultural land is a source of many nonpoint pollutants, so his goal as an Agricultural and Biological Engineer is to work with farmers and other stakeholders to develop a solution that protects the quality of our water resources while maintaining efficient farming operations.

Member of the IPPC Commission (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) of the Italian Ministry of Environmental.
