Biography

Academic and clinical environments have shaped Carmela Dantas-Barbosa experience. She attained her PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Brasília, Brazil. She held postdoctoral positions at CNRS (France) and Institut Gustave Roussy, the largest oncology hospital in France. She has taught in three universities, in Brazil and France, for approximately five years. Carmela Dantas-Barbosa has strong and broad experience in molecular and cellular biology and antibody engineering, with more than 15 years experience in translational research. During her PhD thesis she constructed a Fab antibody phage display library from osteosarcoma patients, which have been used for many different applications. She spent the last years working in the discovery and preclinical validation of new therapeutic targets for pediatric brain tumors and sarcomas. Her research interests include the biology of Notch pathway and the implication of tyrosine kinase receptors such as Tyro3 and Axl in sarcomas tumorigenesis.
