Haematological and blood chemistry characteristics have been widely used in clinical diagnosis of human and domestic animals. They have been described to be indispensable parameters in evaluating physiological status of the fish. Blood is sensitive to environmental pollutants, and can reveal conditions within the body of the fish long before there is any visible sign of disease. In fact they have been frequently been used as indicators of stress in sturgeons. This is because haematological parameters are closely related to the response of the animal to the environment, an indication that the environment in which the fish lives can exert some influence on the blood parameters.
