          The United States has a capitalist mixed economy which is fueled by abundant natural resources and high productivity. The United States is the largest importer of goods and second largest exporter, though exports per capita are relatively low. The country ranks ninth in the world in nominal GDP per capita and sixth in GDP per capita. The U.S. dollar is the world's primary reserve currency. The Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology has enjoyed unprecedented growth in the country.

          This country has given 357 Noble laureates to the World out of which 100 awards are from Physiology/Medicine. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) represents physicians, scientists and other health care professionals who specialize in infectious diseases. IDSA’s purpose is to improve the health of individuals, communities, and society by promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, public health, and prevention relating to infectious diseases. The Infectious Diseases Research Institute, Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Centre for Global Infectious Disease Research are some of the research institutes that carries out research on Infectious Diseases.
