Inflammatory Bowel Disease Prognosis

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic disease caused by a dysregulated immune response to host intestinal microflora. The two major types of inflammatory bowel disease are ulcerative colitis (UC), which is limited to the colon, and Crohn disease (CD), which can affect any segment of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus, involves "skip lesions," and is transmural. There is a genetic predisposition for IBD, and patients with this condition are more prone to the development of malignancy.

Celiac Disease diagnosis

It is seen in people who have recurrent signs of diarrhea and malabsorption. It may produce malabsorption and malnutrition such as pancreatic insufficiency. Immunoglobulin A (IgA) anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody is the single preferred test for detection of celiac disease. If abnormally elevated levels of IgA endomysial and anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies are found, a person almost certainly has celiac disease.

Inflammatory Bowel disease Treatment

Anti-inflammatory drugs are the first step in IBD treatment. These drugs decrease inflammation of the digestive tract. However, they have many side effects. Anti-inflammatory drugs used for IBD include sulfasalazine and its derivatives and corticosteroids.

Lymphocytic Colitis

It is characterized by chronic bloody watery diarrhoea. The disease affects both men and women equally. It is caused due to long term use of anti-depressants. For treatment anti-diarrhoeal drugs are used.

Colonoscopy

The test that are conducted in order to check the abnormalities in the large intestine and rectum. During the treatment of colonoscopy a long flexible tube is inserted into the rectum of the patient .the tube consists of a video camera at its tip which helps the doctor to view the inside of the colon. If necessary any abnormal tissues are removed during this process.

Colon Cancer

It is seen in the large intestine. Cases of colon cancer begin as small, noncancerous clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps. Over time some of these polyps become colon cancers. Polyps may be small and produce few, if any, symptoms. For this reason, doctors recommend regular screening tests to help prevent colon cancer by identifying polyps before they become colon cancer.
