Russia has a high-income mixed economy with state ownership in strategic areas of the economy. Russia relies on energy revenues to drive growth. Russia has an abundance of oil, natural gas and precious metals, which make up a major share of Russia's exports. Russia has a large and sophisticated arms industry, capable of designing and manufacturing high-tech military equipment, including a fifth-generation fighter jet, nuclear powered submarines, firearms, short range/long range ballistic missiles. R&D covers basic research, applied research, and experimental development.

In Informatics this nation produces 28 Nobel laureates so far. Huge political, economical and social changes have occurred in Russia these changes led to restructuring of Russian healthcare as a whole and caused new demands on healthcare informatics. The state priority program of informatics of Russian healthcare has been created by the Ministry of Health in order to respond to the new tasks. Numerous informatics journals are published from Japan with good reputation. Testing Institute of Informatics problems, Russian Academy of Sciences is the leading Institution in informatics in Russia. Several leading Institution in the country including A.P. Ershov Institute of Informatics Systems, ITMO University, MOSCOW Institute and others are spearheading the informatics.
