Scientifically ophthalmology emerged after 1650s only. The establishment of Medical surgery school (1973) in St. Petersburg created awareness for the eye diseases and later Journals published various treatments in Eye diseases. 19th century marks the beginning of modern ophthalmology and then later ophthalmology departments were established in various universities across Russia. Svyatoslav Fyodorov is known as the "father of ophthalmic microsurgery" and he popularized the radial keratotomy, invented a surgical cure for cataract, and developed the scleroplasty. The area further progresses as the government grants funds for the development and appropriate measures to treat the disease completely with the help of laser treatments, surgeries etc. Researchers try to correlate eye diseases to brain vessels and the high use of PC’s, electronics has increased its disease rate.
