About the Journal

Pharmacoeconomics is a branch of health economics related to the most economical and efficient use of pharmaceuticals. Pharmacoeconomics research identifies measures and compares the costs and outcomes of pharmaceutical products and services. Pharmacoeconomics can play a significant role in the efficient allocation of resources in healthcare systems with constrained budgets.

The purpose of the Pharmacoeconomics Journal is to compares the value of one pharmaceutical drug or drug therapy to another. Pharmacoeconomics is an Open Access journal aims to publish most complete and reliable source of information on the discoveries and current developments in the mode of original articles, review articles, case reports and short communications. In all the areas of the field and making them freely available through online without any restrictions or any other subscriptions to researchers worldwide.

OMICS International through its Open Access Initiative is committed to make genuine and reliable contributions to the scientific community. An OMICS Group host over 700 leading-edge peer reviewed Open Access Journals and organizes over 1000 International Conferences annually all over the world.

Pharmacoeconomic Evaluation

It is the evaluation of the cost and effects of the pharmaceutical products. There are several types of evaluations like cost-minimization analysis, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis and cost utility effects.

Cost Benefit Analysis

Cost–benefit analysis (CBA) is a systematic approach to estimating the strengths and weaknesses of alternatives that satisfy transactions, activities or functional requirements for a business. Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) estimates and totals up the equivalent money value of the benefits and costs to the community of projects to establish whether they are worthwhile.

Cost Utility Analysis

Cost–utility analysis (CUA) is a form of financial analysis used to guide procurement decisions. The most common and well-known application of this analysis is pharmacoeconomics, especially health technology assessment (HTA).

Cost Effectiveness Analysis

It involves the comparison of the costs of achieving particular non-monetary objectives; such as lives saved, health improvement, or quality of life. CEA ratios can be applied when the costs are expressed in money and the benefits are in specific health outcomes.

Cost Minimization Analysis

Cost-minimization analysis is a method of calculating drug costs to project the least costly drug or therapeutic modality. Cost minimization also reflects the cost of preparing and administering a dose minimization.

Health Care Delivery

A health system, also sometimes referred to as health care system is the organization of people, institutions, and resources to deliver health care services to meet the health needs of target populations The delivery of modern health care depends on groups of professionals in medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, nursing, dentistry, midwifery (obstetrics) and allied health, plus many others such as public health practitioners, community health workers and assistive personnel, who systematically provide personal and population-based preventive, curative and rehabilitative care services.

Patients's preferences

Patients’ preferences are often misinterpreted or ignored in treatment decisions, leading to a “silent misdiagnosis” that is damaging to both doctors and patients. Evidence also shows that patients often choose different treatments after they become better informed about the risks and benefits. Better diagnosis of patients’ preferences is not only the right ethical thing to do but it may also reduce the cost of healthcare.

Quality of life

Quality of life (QOL) is the general well-being of people and societies. QOL includes a wide selection of contexts, as well as the fields of international development, healthcare, politics and employment. It’s necessary not mix up the concept of QOL with a newer growing space of health connected QOL (HRQOL). When we look at HRQOL we in effect look QOL and its relationship with health.

Patient satisfaction

Patient satisfaction is a crucial and commonly used indicator for measuring the standards in health care. Patient satisfaction affects clinical outcomes, patient retention, and medical malpractice claims. It affects the timely, efficient, and patient-cantered delivery of quality health care. Patient satisfaction is therefore a proxy however an awfully effective indicator to measure the success of doctors and hospitals.

Discounting costs

Discounting renders advantages and prices that occur in several time periods comparable by expressing their values in present terms. In observe, it's accomplished by multiplying the changes in future consumption (broadly outlined, as well as market and non-market goods and services) caused by a policy by a discount factor. At an outline level, discounting reflects that people prefer consumption today to future consumption, which endowed capital, is productive and provides greater consumption in the future. Properly applied, discounting will tell us what proportion future benefits and costs are worth today.

Clinical pharmacy service evaluation

Studies have systematically proven the positive clinical, economic, and humanistic advantages of pharmacist-directed patient care in a very sort of settings. Given the huge variations in clinical outcomes related to evaluated clinical pharmacy services (CPS), more detail as to the nature of the CPS is required to better understand observed differences in economic outcomes. With the growing trend of outpatient pharmacy services, these economic evaluations serve as viable decision-making tools in selecting the most effective and cost-effective pharmacy programs.

Cost of illness evaluation

Cost-of-illness (COI) studies aim to assess the economic burden of health issues on the population overall, and they are conducted for associate degree ever widening vary of health conditions and geographical settings. Whereas they attract abundant interest from public health advocates and attention policy manufacturers, inconsistencies within the means within which they're conducted and an absence of transparency in reporting have created interpretation troublesome, and have seemingly restricted their usefulness.

Drug Code

Unique product identifier used in the United States for drugs intended for human use. Drug Code is a unique 10-digit, 3-segment numeric identifier assigned to each medication listed under Section 510 of the US Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
