Abstract :

Cervical cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide and the third leading cause of death in women with a quarter of the deaths occurring in India. In the developed nations the incidence of cervical cancer has decreased significantly due to aggressive screening programs. This talk will focus on the biology of cervical cancer, the role of HPV in the cause of cancer, the new guidelines for screening pap smears, HPV testing and testing for its surrogate biomarkers in the screening and diagnosis of early precursor lesions of cervical cancer.

Biography :

Shikha Bose is Director of Cytopathology in the Pathology Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and a Professor of Pathology at Cedars and at the School of Medicine of the University of California, Los Angeles. She has authored in excess of 88 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has lectured at more than 60 national and international meetings. Her research interests include precancers of the breast, cervix and thyroid. After completing her MD in Pathology from AIIMS, New Delhi, she trained in cytopathology, oncologic pathology (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York) and in breast pathology (Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City).
