Abstract:

Aim: This prospective clinical study evaluated and compared the one-year clinical performance of self-adhering flowable composite with that of conventional flowable composite in class V restorations. Methods: 20 patients, each with at least two small to moderate cervical carious lesions, were enrolled in this study. A total of 40 restorations were applied, 50% for each material, as follows: a self-adhering flowable composite, fusio liquid dentin (FL) and a conventional flowable composite tetric flow (FF). A single operator restored all the preparations according to the manufacturer??s instructions. The restorations were finished and polished immediately after placement. Clinical evaluation was performed at baseline, one week, six months and after 12 months, by independent examiner according to modified US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS-20.0 (IBM Product-Chicago, USA). The results of subjective scores i.e. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie & Delta were presented as frequencies and percentages. For comparison of inter-examiner scorings, Cohan??s Kappa was used for output matrix 2x2 and non-parametric Wilcoxon sign-rank test was used for matrix 2x3. Significant differences were considered to be present when p?0.05. Results: All the restorations showed trend to be darker in color after 12 months. Regarding the other USPHS criteria, all the restorations showed minor changes, and no significant differences were detected between their performances from baseline to 12 months. Conclusions: Self-adhering flowable composite showed acceptable clinical performance in class V restorations over one year period.
