Abstract :

Quality management is one of the fundamental processes in the food sector which depends on high quality and meaningful data. Advanced instrumental techniques and information systems have given rise to accumulation of huge amount of unused data. The process to retrieve useable information from this unused data has given rise to various techniques which are collectively called data mining. Data mining is the process of extracting valid, previously unknown, comprehensible and actionable information from large databases and using it to make business decisions. Various data mining algorithms are employed to discover meaningful information from data. Data mining is applicable in food sector in agriculture, post-harvest treatment and supply chain. Effective use of data is through data mining assures the quality and safety of the products delivered to the consumers, reduces the cost of production and improves the efficiency of the processes in food sector.
