Abstract :

A surge of new technological developments, coupled with the sequencing of the human genome and the limitations of existing disease-detection methodologies, is propelling the field of proteomics forward at unprecedented rates. Advancements in proteomics and nanotechnology are paving the way for diagnostic tests that will be capable of rapid multi-analyte detection in both laboratory and non-laboratory settings. Consequently, there is intense interest in applying proteomics to foster a better understanding of disease progression, accelerate drug development and develop biomarkers early disease detection of disease. This interest creates numerous challenges to meet the needs for high sensitivity and high throughput required for diseaserelated investigations. Therefore, the author plans to present research demonstrating an in vivo model for studying breast cancer progression. This novel approach, using salivary gland secretions, as they are modified secondary to carcinoma of the breast, may serve as an unexplored method for studying disease progression.
