Abstract:

The key to a successful continuing care program is to make sure that it is a routine task. Recall, or continuing care, is one of the most important systems to assure patients attending their regular dental checkups and hygiene visits, so the problems identified early, which will allow early intervention and resolution. In the long term, regular checkups will reduce the cost of dental treatment and avoid lengthy additional appointments. The main dental health problem in Saudi Arabia is a lack of awareness of the importance of oral hygiene and of regular dental appointments, although access to dental care is provided free of charge to public, which makes it more important to set effective recall systems. Dental Associations and dentists recommend recall appointments every six months on average. No one carries more weight than the dental hygienists do when it comes to scheduling effective recall. Dental hygienists are rare in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia, which negatively affects the recall visits outlining the disease and setting scientific strategies to provide prevention programs. Therole of the dentist and dental hygienist in improving the oral hygiene of the public through solid recall systems, and the latest strategies for motivating individuals to comply and keep their checkups appointments will be discussed.
