Objective: To report a woman with androgen insensitivity syndrome who underwent a successful laparoscopic Vecchietti procedure but ended up with closure of the vagina after 6 months due to lack of the epithelization of the neovagina. Study methods: A 25 years old woman with androgen insensitivity syndrome presented to King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with difficulty during sexual intercourse. She was diagnosed when she was 18 years old with androgen insensitivity syndrome because of primary amenorrhea and underwent removal of the testes from the groin. She underwent an uncomplicated laparoscopic neovagina as described before. Results: Postoperatively; vaginal examination revealed a vaginal length of 8 cm without epithelization. She was instructed to have regular vaginal dilatation using dilators at home. Initially she reported an improved sexual function, nevertheless; she complained of shortening and difficult vaginal intercourse, examination revealed vaginal obliteration. Conclusion(s): The laparoscopic Vecchietti procedure may not appropriate for women with androgen insensitivity syndrome due to lack of epithelization.

Her research activity participation includes papers about hematological malignancies and fertility preservation, postpartum depression and associated risk factors, effects of being underweight pre-pregnancy and gestational weight gain on maternal and fetal outcomes. She also displays managerial, logistical, and communication roles demonstrated in being the group leader for 3 successive years during medical school, and an active member on the team who worked on achieving the Canadian diamond accreditation for King Abdulaziz University Hospital. Her goal is to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology at an academic institute, specialize in fertility treatment and preservation, provide the best service possible for her patients, and be a strong education and research asset for her institution.
