Abstract:

The geriatric population is exploding. Acute and chronic pain is an important public health concern impacting our geriatric population disproportionately. Pain is often under reported in the geriatric population due to the mistaken belief that pain is a normal part of the aging process. This presentation will focus on the geriatric physiologic changes that impact both the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of pain treatment modalities as well as provide an overview of relevant information for effective pain management of this growing population.
