Teaching and research are apparently connected to each other as the most logically coupled relationships in higher education. The current practice of higher education in most of the universities in Egypt retains students ��?at arm��?s length away from the era of university research. Integrating research will intensify student engagement, profound understanding by inquiry-led learning, as well as scale up additional skills as critical thinking, and direct research. Although the available area in current pharmacy curricula for instructional content in research extremely varied from one school to another so do the hands-on opportunities necessary to develop practical research skills, there is almost a consensus to focus on pharmacy practice rather than enhancing research first-hand experience. The incorporating research-based curriculum in school of pharmacy is commonly hindered by awkward challenges such as infrastructure, large number of students, and absence of culture of grants tracing. The aim of the proposed curriculum is to develop pharmacy school graduates competencies through upgrading their capabilities in designing and conducting full research projects; applying ethical guidelines of state of the art research; improving instrumental research skills; developing research attitudes and understanding basics and fundamental aspects of research, criticize the published articles. The research course work is proposed to end up with celebrating and disseminating the outcomes of final-year projects to attain public recognition of the student as producer. In conclusion, the implementation of research-based curriculum will offer unprecedented opportunity for both students and faculty to attain a capstone experience and increase their confidence and intellectual development.
Mohamed A Hamzawy received a PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. He works as lecturer of pharmacology and toxicology, and was appointed as director of Pharmacology & Chemistry Research Center, Misr University for Science & Technology. He was selected as of Secretary of National Committee of Pharmacology, Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT). He attained fellowship to join (UNILEAD) program from DAAD and Oldenburg University for project management. He joined networking meeting for quality of higher education and internationalization of education. He was selected as member of board of Egyptian Society of Pharmacology.
