A limited number of studies have focused on the use of yoga for musculoskeletal conditions, and few have examined young people. One study for RA did include young people, however, the age range was too broad (aged 15-72 years) to determine the specific utility of the findings for young people. Despite the small number of participants in this study (10 in each of the yoga and control groups), yoga was found to significantly improve handgrip strength. Several other studies examining yoga for arthritis have reported beneficial effects. Most recently, a controlled trial using Raj yoga for adults with RA found significant improvements in disease activity (including an inflamed joints count), and arthritis functioning in 26 yoga completers compared to the group of 21 control patients.
