Russia is largest nation that borders European and Asian countries as well as the Pacific and Arctic oceans. Russia is a democratic federative state with a republican form of government and a head of the state is the President elected by the citizens of Russia every six years. The current Russian President is Vladimir Putin, the Supreme Commander of the country's Armed Forces.

Geography of the country:

Geographically, Russia is the largest country that occupies about one-eighth of the total world's land surface. It covers most of the Eastern Europe and north Asia, extending from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east, and from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Black Sea and the Caucasus in the south. Russia is having world's longest land border of about 60,000 km (over 37,000 miles).

Status of economy, research and development:

Russia has a developed, high-income market economy with enormous natural resources, particularly oil and natural gas. It has the 15th largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and the 6th largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). Russian economy is in the balancing phase.

Status about the different subjects in which extensive research is going on:

In Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Peace and Economic Sciences this world’s largest nation produced 28 Nobel laureates. The Russian Political Science Association (RPSA) is a non-governmental organization to promote the integration of Russian political scientists and development of infrastructure in the political science community. The Institute of Socio-Political Research under the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPR RAS) is a leading Russian academic research center. It is engaged in a fundamental and applied research of social and socio-political processes. Wassily Wassilyevich Leontief was an American economist of Russian-Jewish descent notable for his research on how changes in one economic sector may have an effect on other sectors. Numerous Social and political science journals are published from Russia in order to encourage a transnational and global study of Russian Politics. Several leading Institution in the country including Moscow State Institute of International Relations, National Research University Higher School of Economics, and others are spearheading the Social and political science research.
