Biography :

Shi-hua Xiang received his Ph.D. in molecular microbiology from University of Sydney, Australia in 1995, and his postdoctoral training in Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA from 1998 to 2004. He joined the faculty as an Instructor in Harvard Medical School from 2004-2010, and a Senior Principle Scientist in Pfizer, UK for a short period of time before taken the faculty position in Nebraska Center for Virology and School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln as an Assistant Professor in 2011. Dr. Xiang’s research is mainly on HIV/AIDS, focusing on HIV envelope glycoprotein structure and function, HIV entry, and structure-based design of antigens, antibodies and inhibitors against HIV infection. He has published more than 40 papers in the peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Science, PNAS, Molecular Cell, Structure, Journal of Virology, AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses. In recent years of research, Dr. Xiang has received Phase I and Phase II awards of Grand Challenge Explorations (GCE) from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in the development of a novel strategy using our body commensal bacteria for anti-HIV infection and transmission.

Biography :

Paula Frew is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Emory University - Atlanta, Georgia And Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health – Atlanta, Georgia She is also Director of Communications and Community Research at the Hope Clinic of the Emory Vaccine Center She has received a PhD in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, 2005-2007. She completed a MPH in Prevention Science from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, Atlanta, GA (2001) and an MA degree from San Diego State University, San Diego, California (1997). She has completed her B.A in Sociology and Theatre from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), La Jolla, CA (1990). She has received numerous awards and honors including the “Gerald A. Ludd Lifetime Award for Excellence in Support of HIV/AIDS and Community Service” in 2009 from National AIDS Education and Services for Minorities. She is an active reviewer of 14 journals including JAIDS, AIDS & Behavior, Prevention Science, and others.

Dr. Di Wu is a Senior Research Associate in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Guest Professor at Central South University. She serves as Clinical Investigator at Kinetic Modeling and Simulation core of University of Pennsylvania (UPenn)/CHOP Clinical and Translation Science Award supported by US NIH. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy (1992) and M.S. in Biopharmaceutics & Pharmaceutical Analysis from China Pharmaceutical University (1995) and Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy in Michigan State University (2001). She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical and Preclinical Pharmacology at Ohio State University (2005). She published nearly 50 publications and conference abstracts, and serves as a reviewer for five journals (e.g. Journal of Clinical Pharmacology), editorial board member of Journal of AIDS and Clinical Research and Associate Editor of Pharmaceutica Analytica Acta. She was elected to Fellow of Clinical Pharmacology by American College of Clinical Pharmacology in 2009.

Biography :

Professor Karl Peltzer is Research Director, in the research programme HIV/AIDS, STI and TB (HAST), Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa, an extraordinary Professor in Psychology at Free State University, South Africa, and a Visiting Professor in Psychology at University of Klagenfurt, Austria. He was previously Professor of Psychology and Director of the Health Behaviour Research Unit at the University of Limpopo. His education is a Dr Habil in Health Psychology from University of Klagenfurt, PhD in Social Health Psychology from University of Hannover and MA in Clinical Psychology from University of Bremen. He is a prevention researcher and evaluator with over 20 years of experience in the study of health promotion, risk behaviour and disease prevention, and socio-behavioural interventions. Dr Peltzer has published extensively on health behaviour and health interventions (16 books, 350 articles, and 50 book chapers). He has worked extensively on public health subject areas of alcohol, tobacco, cancer, tuberculosis and HIV control; nutrition, physical activity, hypertension, mental health, injury and violence prevention and health promotion.

Marc H V Van Regenmortel is currently an Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS (French National Research Center) in the School of Biotechnology of the University of Strasbourg, France. He was for 22 years Director of the Immunochemistry Laboratory at the CNRS Molecular Biology Institute in Strasbourg and previously was a professor at several universities in South Africa and France. He served (1984-1990) as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Virology Division of the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) and was Secretary General of IUMS from 1990 to 1999. He was also for six years (1996-2002) President of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. He supervised the research work of 30 PhD students and has published 395 research and review papers as well as 17 books in the fields of Virology and Immunochemistry. In 2009 he co-edited with Brian Mahy of the CDC in Atlanta, the third edition of the Encyclopedia of Virology in 5 volumes published by Elsevier.
He is currently Editor-in-Chief of ARCHIVES OF VIROLOGY and JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR RECOGNITION, an Executive Editor of ANALYTICAL BIOCHEMISTRY, an Associate Editor of ADVANCES IN VIRUS RESEARCH, FRONTIERS IN IMMUNOTHERAPIES AND VACCINES, JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGICAL METHODS, ISRN IMMUNOLOGY, BIONOMINA and EXPERT REVIEWS OF PROTEOMICS

Koosha Paydary is a senior researcher at several research centers affiliated to TUMS, he gained experience from various research activities such as the many performed reviews and acted at several executive positions. He published several scholarly articles with regard to the nationwide epidemiology of the HIV infection. He also compiled several books and booklets in the various fields of research skills most recently. His research interests mostly include HIV/AIDS evolving drug resistance, novel therapeutic options, adherence to anti-retroviral therapy and the associated factors.

Berhanu Tameru is Associate Professor of Mathematical Epidemiology and Director of the Center for Computational Epidemiology, Bioinformatics & Risk Analysis (CCEBRA) and Biomedical Information Management Systems (BIMS) College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing & Allied Health, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee Alabama. He has been developing computational tools and mathematical approaches used in epidemiologic problem-solving and decision-making of animal, plant and human diseases. He has developed models for HIV/AIDS to study the population-level (micro (cellular) and macro (human)) dynamics and effects of various therapy and mitigation on HIV/AIDS.
