Biography :

Dr. Flick received his PhD at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany in 1998. Currently,  he is working as the Chief Scientific Officer at BioProtection Systems Corporation, a biotechnology company developing countermeasures against bioterror threaths. He has worked in several high-containment biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories (Sweden, Canada, USA) and was the Director of the BSL-4 laboratory in Galveston, TX before he joined BioProtection Systems Corporation. He has authored more than 40 research articles/reviews/book chapters. He is a member of the American Society of Virology and the American Society of Microbiology.

Dr. Devon J. Shedlock is an immunologist/virologist who received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2003 investigating the role of CD4+ T cell help in the generation of immunity.  Afterwards, he worked at the NIH Vaccine Research Center studying the mechanisms of antibody-mediated neutralization of Ebola virus.  Currently, he is a Senior Research Investigator in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UPenn and his research focuses on the development and evaluation of novel DNA vaccine strategies, optimization techniques, and advanced delivery methods for prophylactic and therapeutic immunization. He is a member of the Penn Institute for Immunology and has authored numerous peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, commentaries, and book chapters.  He has also delivered lectures as an invited speaker at several national and international meetings, medical schools, and Continuing Medical Education programs.

Biography :

Mingtao Zeng is an Associate Professor at the Center of Excellence in Infectious Diseases, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, USA. He received his B.S. from Sichuan University, M.S. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Tel Aviv University, and had postdoctoral training in Molecular and Cell Biology at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zeng has spent the last decade to develop new generation vaccines against respiratory pathogens such as influenza viruses and Streptococcus pneumoniae as well as agents important for biodefense such as Bacillus anthracis and botulinum neurotoxins. He is also studying the effect of current vaccination programs on the epidemiological changes of respiratory pathogens (strain replacement and antigenic variation) and how people respond to infections or vaccinations at cellular and molecular levels (T cell,   B cell, and gene expression levels). Dr. Zeng has served as members in numerous grant reviewing committees for National Institute of Health (NIH) and Department of Defense (DOD) in the field of microbial vaccine research. He has reviewed manuscripts for many journals such as Nature Methods, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Vaccine, etc.

Dr. George H. Avery  has received his PhD   in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration from the Universityof Minnesota in 2005 and a Master´s in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas in 1995.  Currently,  he working as an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Purdue  University. Prior to returning for his doctorate, he spent over ten years as a chemist, quality assurance officer, and laboratory certification officer with the Arkansas Department of Health. He is serving as an editorial board member or reviewer for several reputed journals like World Health and Medical Policy, the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of Homeland Defense and Emergency Management, and the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice. He /she has authored twenty book chapters, esearch articles, and monographs. He is a member of AcademyHealth, the Academy of Political Science, the American Society for Public Administration, the American Public Health Association, Pi Alpha Alpha Honorary in Public Administration, and the Alpha Chi Sigma chemistry fraternity. He  has served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Academy Health Public Health Systems Research Interest Group, on the  Indiana Rural Emergency Medical Services Task Force, the Regulatory Coordination Committee of the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference, and two CDC study sections.

Shiva Raj Adhikari is an Associate Professor of Health Economics of the Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University. He received a M. A. in Economics from Tribhuvan University and a PhD in Health Economics from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He received UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO special research programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease (TDR) grant for his PhD. He is an executive member of Nepal Health Economics Association, Kathmandu. Dr Adhikari has received numerous grants for his health economics and tropical disease related researches. He was a short term scholar at school of public health, Tulane University, USA in 2010. Prof. Jian-Ru Gong received her Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) in 2005. She was a Postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, Chemistry & Chemical Biology Department during 2005-2008, and joined National Center for Nanoscience and Technology,  China(NCNST) in 2009. Her achievements in academia have been recognized by many awards, including Chinese National Natural Science Prize  (2007), First-rank Prize of China Association for Instrumental Analysis (2006), Procter & Gamble Honorary Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2004) and Young Scientist Prize of ICCAS (2004). The outstanding work was evidenced by publications on prestigious scientific journals, such as Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA,J. Am. Chem. Soc.,Small,J. Phys. Chem. B,Chem. Luca Valerio, MD, graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy, where he was an intern in the laboratory of General Pathology, the department of Anatomic Pathology and Legal Medicine, and the department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, cooperating with the research activity of all three. He lives in the Netherlands where he is working for the NIVEL (Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research) in a research project on compared health systems on account of WHO Europe and for the European Public Health Association in a European Union-sponsored project on the promotion of Health Impact Assessment, and where he is set to start the medical specialty training in Internal Medicine.

Dr.Estes is an internationally recognized  immunologist with extensive experience in the cloning, expression and development of detection reagents for cytokines and cell surface receptors in a variety of species including rodents. Dr. Estes has served as principal investigator on 35 grants conducting fundamental studies of immunoregulation in rodent and nonrodent species. He has been continuously funded for the past 10 years by the USDA National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program (NRICGP) and more recently by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS). He has also directed projects in collaboration with private industry including Pfizer, Inc., Smith-Kline Beecham, Mallinkrodt, Addison Laboratories and Boehringer Ingleheim. He currently holds funding from the NIH and the DOD.
