Biography :

Dr. Weier received a B.S. degree (Vordiplom) in physics from the University of Hannover, Hannover, Germany, and a M.S. (Diplom) as well as a Ph.D. degree (Dr. rer. nat.) from the same university. He was a scientist at one of the West-German Federal Research Centers, the gsf-Munich, before he went on sabbatical at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) in Livermore, California in 19986-1987. Following a short postdoctoral Training at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Weier continued to work as Postdoctoral Fellow and then Biomedical Scientist at LLNL. From 1991 to 1994, Dr. Weier was Specialist in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, UCSF, and since 1994 holds a position as Staff Biophysicist in the Life Sciences Division, E.O. Lawrence Berkeley Natl. Laboratory, in Berkeley, CA. He is a Past President of the Histochemical Society.

Dr Maria Krestyaninova is a Biomedical Informatics Coordinator in Functional Genomics group at the European Bioinformatics Institute, Hinxton, UK. She was awarded a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow, Russia. Since 2005 Dr Krestyaninova led the open source cross-institutional software project SIMBioMS (simbiomg.org). Since 2008 she served as a co-leader of the IT working group at Public Population Project in Genomics (P3G). In this role she was involved in design and development of informatics infrastructure for cross-biobank data integration and harmonization. Dr Krestyaninova published 10 peer-reviewed papers and served as a reviewer in the areas of bioinformatics, data management, data standards, cheminformatics and data analysis. Research interests: Software design and architecture; high-throughput data warehousing and data integration; re-annotation and consistency control of high-throughput complex datasets; molecular and genetic data analysis; semantic enrichment and semantic analysis, development of data exchange standards for large complex studies, biobank data harmonisation; self-organisation principles in IT design.

Jennifer Dommer is an experienced bioinformatics specialist and software development professional with a strong background in genetics, statistics, and computer science. Herprimary role is to create customized and intuitive programs and applications to help biological researchers identify novel data and new areas for research. I enjoy working in collaborative rolls, where I excel in facilitating communication between biological researchers and software professionals. Jennifer Dommer has an MS in Bioinformatics from the University of Pennsylvania and specialize in bioinformatics, computational biology, reproducible workflows, web development, database development and data integration.

Dr. Sona Vasudevan is an Assistant Professor in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Georgetown University Medical Center and a senior bioinformatics scientist at the Protein Information Resource PIR Dr Vasudevan is a structural biologist by training having earned her PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto Canada Using the technique of Xray crystallography Dr Vasudevan solved structures of antibodies against proteins involved in cancer Her postdoctoral work was done in the labs of Zaverio Ruggeri Head Department of Experimental Medicine at the Scripps Research Institute and Thomas R Cech Nobel Laureate and former head of Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Colorado Dr Vasudevan has also gained experiences in the fields of blood coagulation homology modeling proteinligand interactions and RNA biology Dr Vasudevan is a recipient of many awards that include the International Human Frontiers Science Program Skaggs Research Fellowship and a Certificate of Appreciation for her teaching efforts Over the past ten years Dr Vasudevan has been heavily involved in the areas of bioinformatics specifically in protein annotation and development of methodologies for functional characterizations of proteins using structural information Dr Vasudevan has mentored over 20 students and directs several graduate level courses She serves as a reviewer for peerreviewed journals
