CSIC is represented in GlycoHIT by two of its constituent bodies- the Centre for Biological Research (CIB) and the Rocasolano Institute of Physical Chemistry (IQFR).The Centre for Biological research (CIB); is part of the Higher Council for Scientific Research of Spain (CSIC) and is located within the Univesidad Complutense Campus in Madrid. Prof. Jiménez-Barbero is head of the Chemical and Physical Biology (CPB) section of the CIB. Research at CPB focuses on the investigation of protein conformation, structure, dynamics, and function, as well as on the specific molecular interactions between proteins and other biomolecules and the formation of supra-molecular assemblies. Research in these topics is ideally suited towards developing a more quantitative approach to Biology. Its goal is to use the understanding of these processes for design and engineering of proteins, ligands, and macromolecular machines “a la carte” which will open new biotechnological horizons.
