This medical school was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College at the time of de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India. With up gradation of JIPMER as an “Institution of National Importance” and consequent increase in faculty members and postgraduate and postdoctoral students and increased availability of funds there has been a significant and continuing increase in research activity at all levels. The JIPMER Scientific Advisory Committee (JSAC) was constituted in 2009 by inclusion of external experts to replace the JIPMER Institute Research Council. The purpose of JIPMER Scientific Advisory Committee (JSAC) is to increase the quality of research which is undertaken in JIPMER. Main committee of JIPMER Scientific Advisory Committee is having fourteen doctors in team. Twelve members in external committee and ten members in internal committee. Central research facility available at research centre to avail the world class facilities to young researchers and doctors.
Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has been promoting research activities in medical sciences since its inception. This research may be in the form of faculty research projects, postgraduate dissertation work, PhD thesis work and undergraduate research projects and may involve human or animal subjects. There has been an increase in all types of research activities after JIPMER has become an Institution of National Importance. There are more than 600 research publications from JIPMER. Some recent researches includes, Assessment of Serum Vaspin Levels among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients with or without Acute Coronary Syndrome, Optimisation of Emergency Healthcare Services for efficiency and patient safety using complexity science based approach, Non-bacterial pneumonias, etc.
