The UPMC Foundation and the AXA insurance company have officially launched the Chair for research on Alzheimers Disease on Wednesday, February 12th, 2014. The Chair holder is Professor Harald Hampel, Professor at Pierre and Marie Curie University, Department of Neurology, the Institute of Memory and Alzheimers disease (at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris).The professor will present his academic program to identify Alzheimers disease from the asymptomatic stage through the use of biomarkers. Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University Officially established on August 27, 2009, to contribute directly or indirectly to the development and promotion of the Pierre and Marie Curie University Foundation UPMC the partnerships purpose, in all areas relevant to its missions, working especially in the priority areas following: Develop outreach, awareness and national and international attractiveness of UPMC Support and promote research in the areas of competence of UPMC Contribute to the education offered at UPMC Improve the quality of life and hospitality of the students and the community of UPMC Fostering partnerships, exchange of experiences and expertise between UPMC and the economy Promote the social and professional integration of former students, value degrees from UPMC Develop the network of alumni and friends of UPMC Support the development of partnerships or cooperation with international The foundation relies on the bodies of the university, including directories of research and training, to select projects to highlight to our patrons. The construction of a sponsorship project is done through an ongoing dialogue with companies with which negotiations can take months or even years! In any case, this is philanthropy and the company therefore has very few counterparts except in terms of image. Academic freedom of the teacher-researcher is preserved. The foundation has initiated contact with Atos and Renault. Negotiations began in 2011 and we tried with our partners to imagine what might look like the project under the patronage. The gift of 300,000 per year for five years has allowed the recruitment of Chair in January 2013, Giovanni Pau, and will operate from the pulpit. Governance Chair is provided by a steering committee comprising representatives of UPMC, the foundation and of course the patrons.
