    Kaplan is a Senior Investigator at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He received his Doctoral degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and conducted postdoctoral work at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, New York. Dr. Kaplan joined the FDA in 1991 and was tenured in 1998 due to his contributions to the understanding of the cell entry process of Hepatitis A virus (HAV) and the licensing of HAV vaccines. He identified the HAV cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1), the first member of the HAVCR family of glycoproteins that are significant modulators of immune responses. From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Kaplan served as the Chief of the Laboratory of Hepatitis and Related Emerging Agents, CBER-FDA. He is currently a Senior Investigator at the Laboratory of Emerging Pathogens, CBER-FDA, where he continues his work in the HAV-HAVCR1 interaction and initiated a research program in Filoviruses focused on cell entry, vaccines, and BSL-2 neutralization assays to determine correlates of protection.     Biography :
    Shirwan is Michael and Joan Hamilton Endowed Chair in Autoimmune Disease Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and the Director of the Molecular Immunomodulation Program at the Institute for Cellular Therapeutics. He conducted his graduate studies at the University of California in Santa Barbara CA and postdoctoral studies at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena CA. He joined the University of Louisville in 1998 after holding academic appointments at various institutions in the United States. Dr Shirwans research focuses on the modulation of immune system for the treatment of immunebased diseases with particular focus on type 1 diabetes transplantation and development of vaccines against infections and cancer. Dr Shirwan is widely published lectured at various national/international conferences served on various federal and nonprofit funding agencies and is on the Editorial Board of nine scientific journals He is a member of several national and international societies and recipient of various awards.     Biography :
    Glenn is a pioneer in vaccine delivery and adjuvants, and has brought several products from concept into clinical development, such as the travelers\' diarrhea vaccine patch and an adjuvant patch for a pandemic influenza vaccine, developed under U.S. government contracts. He provided the scientific and technical leadership that led to the acquisition of IOMAI by Intercell in 2008. He has co-authored more than 150 research publications, scientific abstracts and presentations, and successful grant applications, and holds multiple U.S., European and other international patents. In addition, he is an associate editor of the journals Expert Review of Vaccines, and Human Vaccine, and was a board-certified pediatrician. Dr. Glenn received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry from Whitman College and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oral Roberts University School of Medicine.     Biography :
    Michael Vajdy is Co-founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer of EpitoGenesis, Inc., established in 2008. Dr. Vajdy is a mucosal immunologist and Vaccinologist with over 20 years of direct academic and industry experience in designing mucosal and systemic adjuvants and vaccines, studying mucosal and systemic B and T cell immune induction mechanisms and long-term immunological memory, and product development. Following his Ph.D. Studentship at Goteborg University under the supervision of Dr. Nils Lycke, a prominent mucosal immunologist, Dr. Vajdy completed post doctoral fellowships with Dr. Katherine Knight, then President of the American Association of Immunology and Dr. Marian Neutra, a renowned expert in mucosal biology and M cells of the intestinal Peyer’s patches and mucosal HIV vaccine development. Dr. Vajdy was recruited to Chiron Corporation (later Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc.) where his work was instrumental in the development of mucosal and systemic vaccine products against various infectious diseases. Dr. Vajdy advanced one of these products, i.e. HIV-env, to non-human primate studies in which he demonstrated vaccine efficacy in protection against SHIV challenges. A clinical trial, based on Dr. Vajdy’s results from this macaque study was then conducted. He remained there for 9.5 years with increasing responsibilities including project leadership for a vaccine manufacturing platform technology. He also held simultaneous academic positions as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and Visiting Associate Professor at Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, University of California, Davis. He was also a Faculty member with the graduate group, Department of Comparative Pathology, University of California, Davis. In these capacities, he trained student/fellows and wrote collaborative NIH grants. Dr. Vajdy has authored over 50 peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters; he is the editor of a book entitled “Immunity against Mucosal Pathogens” (Springer, 2008) and has been PI or Investigator on several funded NIH grants    BIOGRAPHY

    Mark J. Ahn, Ph.D. is President & Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Galena Biopharma (Nasdaq: GALE). Dr. Ahn has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer since March 31, 2011 and as a director since 2007; and adjunct Professor, Biosciences at Creighton University. He also has served since September 2011 as the President, Chief Financial Officer and sole director of our RXi Pharmaceuticals Corporation subsidiary, which we refer to as “RXi.” He brings more than 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Galena, starting in 2011, Dr. Ahn was Principal at Pukana Partners, Ltd., which provides strategic consulting to life science companies; and Associate Professor, Global Management at Atkinson Graduate School of Management, Willamette University. He previously served as Professor and Chair, Science & Technology Management, Victoria University at Wellington, New Zealand. Dr. Ahn was also founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Hana Biosciences. Prior to joining Hana, he served as Vice President, Hematology and corporate officer at Genentech, Inc., and held positions of increasing responsibility at Amgen and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Dr. Ahn also serves on public and venture capital-backed board of directors for RXi Pharmaceuticals, Access Pharmaceuticals, Mesynthes and ScribesSTAT. Dr. Ahn is the author of over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and books. Dr. Ahn received a B.A. and M.B.A. from Chaminade University; and M.A. from Victoria University.     Dechu C. Tang is the Scientific Founder, Vice President of Research and Chief Technical Officer at Vaxin Inc. He obtained his PhD in Microbiology from Indiana University in 1989. He carried out his postdoctoral work at Baylor College of Medicine, Duke University, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He joined the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1994 and subsequently founded Vaxin Inc. in 1997. Dr. Tang was a pioneer during the development of DNA Vaccines, noninvasive epicutaneous vaccines, adenovirus vectored influenza and anthrax vaccines. He is serving as an editorial member of Journal of Vaccines & Vaccination and Expert Review of Vaccines. He received the Wallace H.     Dr. Gerald Kovacs is the Director of the Division of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Countermeasures in the Office of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) within the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response. At BARDA, Dr. Kovacs focuses on addressing the major scientific and regulatory challenges of developing medical countermeasures against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. Dr. Kovacs is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of programs authorized by the Project BioShield Act of 2004 and the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006. Since joining BARDA in 2005, Dr. Kovacs has expanded BARDA’s portfolio of CBRN programs from four to forty-eight. He has led five programs through Phase II clinical testing, and has delivered five first-in-class medical countermeasures to the Strategic National Stockpile    BIOGRAPHY

    Moise completed his ScB in Biochemistry at Brown University in 1993, and went on to pursue graduate studies in the Molecular and Cellular Biology and Biochemistry (MCB) Program at Brown University, where he worked under Dr. Edward Hawrot in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biotechnology (MPPB). His doctoral thesis topic was NMR solution structure of the principal bungarotoxin binding site on the alpha7 neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in complex with bungarotoxin. After he received his PhD from Brown University in May 2002, he was an NIH COBRE Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dr. Hawrot’s lab, studying the functional effects of bungarotoxin binding site transplantation into other proteins. In July 2005, Lenny joined the TB/HIV research laboratory at Brown University as an Instructor in Medicine, studying vaccine design and T cell immunology. In June 2006 Lenny joined the EpiVax team as Director of Vaccine Research.     John Dong is President and CEO of GenPhar, Inc. Under John\'s leadership, GenPhar, Inc. has developed a unique vaccine platform and created a number of multivalent vaccines against lethal viruses. With a novel technology and promising research data, John has established close collaborations with divisions of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). John\'s collaborations include: working with the Simian Vaccine Evaluation Unit of NIH to develop an HIV vaccine that induces both neutralizing and CTL responses; partnering with the US Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) to develop a bivalent Ebola vaccine and a trivalent Marburg vaccine; and a joint effort with the US Navy Medical Research Center (NMRC) to develop a tetravalent dengue vaccine against all four serotypes of the dengue virus. John has also been leading the effort to develop commercial applications of the platform, including a hepatitis C vaccine, hepatitis B vaccine and a West Nile virus vaccine.     Shreemanta Parida is an infectious disease clinician scientist with PhD in immunology and a distinguished career over quarter of century in many centers of excellence in Europe; WHO-IRTC, Geneva, Giessen, MPIIB, Berlin, Pasteur Institute, Brussels and University of Oxford. He returned to India in May 2011 after 22 years in Europe & Africa (AHRI, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for 3 years) to head the Vaccine Grand Challenge Program of DBT of Ministry of Science and Technology of Govt of India.
